If the movement increases in size and intensity, how long until we hear the “Domestic Terrorism” word thrown out?

Reminds me of the scene in Reds where Emma Goldman says “Voting is the opiate of the masses.”

Christopher,
I know that most Americans believe that the Constitution was written to give many people access to democracy and power but my reading of American History paints a different picture. The Founding Fathers seemed to follow a John Locke point of view as far the greatness of property owners versus a more Rousseau-ian view of people. The Founding Fathers seemed to despise what we would call working-class or poor people yet so many people think that they were the “champion” of the everyman. Am I wrong here? -

I think it will be a long time before any change happens. You would be surprised how many Americans are satisfied with less. As long as they can watch Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, and NFL Football along with basic creature comforts they will gladly bury their heads in the sand while getting fleeced by Wall Street and Washington. Also, many Americans are infused with a false sense of optimism. They believe that “recovery is just around the corner” and “these things come in cycles.” I think unemployment needs to hit over 20 0r 25% to shake people out of their slumber. If that’s even possible.

On the same show, Jane’s old buddy Grover was crowing about how we will never have an early 90′s type tax increase on the wealthy. Just sad.

Jeremy, thank you for your time. I’ve seen you be critical of both Alan Dershowitz and Norman Finkelstein. Would you say one is more correct than the other or do you hold that both represent extremist views that are simply unhelpful?

Isn’t it hypocritical to insist that a Palestinian state be completely demilitarized while Israel has an arsenal that rivals most modern nations?

I’m afraid we’re stuck on this rollercoaster comrade. I’ve already got a headstart on poverty. What do I care if the economy collapses? At least gas prices will come down.

Also, I’ve looked into immigrating myself. Based on the research I’ve done in the countries mentioned, Americans are about as welcome as a case of phlebitis.

I see a lot of people talking about heading to Canada, Europe, etc. but does anyone ever actually do it? Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see a mass exodus and brain drain but it just sounds like bravado/blowing off steam.

I would wait. I used to be a landscaper for a college and we weren’t allowed to mow in the rain. I live next to a lawn-nazi who has to mow it every week and mine always looks like crap by comparison.

I’m spending too much time on sports message boards. I’m a huge football fan and I love a good cenversation but most sports fans are racist, right-wing d-bags. I’m tired of explaining the definition of the word socialism and why Obama clearly isn’t one.

jwill5587 commented on the blog post Continued Existence Of Military Proves America Is Still Awesome
This. I come from a poor background. Had several friends join the military after high school. When I asked why I don’t recall ever hearing the words “freedom” or “sacrifice” being used. Even among liberals, middle- class guilt pervades when talking about the military.
