KevinZeese wrote a new diary post: Labor Day Reflection: Time for Americans to Participate in Power
Three hundred million Americans can take control of the economy and country The Roman philosopher and statesman, Marcus Tullius Cicero, said, “Freedom is participation in power.” By that standard, Americans are not free. We do not participate in power. We do not even have power over our own economic lives, our elected “representatives” ignore us and [...] -
KevinZeese wrote a new diary post: October2011.org Urges People to Join Tar Sands Protests
The Stop the Pipeline!-The Tar Sands Action ongoing in Washington, DC deserves the support of all of us. The protest has gotten the attention of the White House as they mistreated protesters arrested on the first day. President Obama would have liked to quietly approve the pipeline but climate activists are making that impossible. The October2011 Movement which [...] -
KevinZeese commented on the blog post More Top Democrats Come Out in Support of 14th Amendment Solution
If Obama does not take this obvious step then he will be using the phony debt crisis to cut the social safety net, especially Medicare and Social Security, in the quest for his billion dollar campaign. A debt crisis is a tool to accomplish political goals that could not be accomplished any other way. Of course, he’ll blame the Republicans as he does so.

KevinZeese wrote a new diary post: The Sentencing of Tim DeChristopher Highlights the Conflict Between the People and Corporate-Government
When Democratic Institutions No Longer Give Citizens Power, Civil Disobedience Becomes Essential to Challenge Legalized Injustice By Kevin Zeese The trial and sentencing of Tim DeChristopher highlights the conflict between the people of the United States and the corporate-government that protects the privileged. In his pre-sentencing statement (republished below) Tim told Judge Dee Benson that the [...] -
KevinZeese wrote a new diary post: Tim DeChristopher’s Battle for Justice Is Our Battle
Our Best Response is Unity, Resolve and Confidence in Our Power By Kevin Zeese We are all Tim DeChristopher. That is made clear by the government in its official sentencing recommendations to Federal Judge Dee Benson. The prosecutors write: “many are watching to see the eventual sentence” and therefore DeChristopher’s “sentence should effectively communicate that similar acts [...] -
KevinZeese commented on the blog post New Chat Logs Say Bradley Manning Got Information From White House Staff and Other “Politically Tied” People
Thanks Jane, for the analysis. Summary of most important from these purported chat logs:
- No connection between Assange and Manning. The new chats hurt the government case against Assange.
- Lamo is a liar. If he is the government’s chief witness, they have problems.
Manning is a thoughtful and smart guy if these purported chat logs are what they claim.
Finally, not relevant to Manning or Assange — WIRED lied about why they withheld at least part of these chats. Yes, there was personal, irrelevant stuff – but those were never at issue — the Assange, Lamo, national security material is what they should have released and their excuses do not fit what the purported chat logs show.

KevinZeese wrote a new diary post: Has U.S. Foreign Policy Ever Been Such a Mess?
Multiple Wars are Symptoms of the Need to Escape the Quagmire of Empire By Kevin Zeese I can’t remember a time when the U.S. military has been stuck in so many war quagmires at once. Libya seems destined to fail unless the U.S. gets a lucky shot and kills Gaddafi. U.S. militarists are openly maneuvering to stay [...]

KevinZeese wrote a new diary post: Is a Broader Peace Movement Here? One That Can Really Stop U.S. Militarism?
By Kevin Zeese A new anti-war movement that can really challenge U.S. militarism is being born. People from across the political spectrum joined together opposing U.S. war and empire. In a letter organized by, Come Home America , they cite a combination of events that present a “historic opportunity to redirect U.S. foreign policy down the pathways of [...]

KevinZeese commented on the diary post A Question for Reflection on the 4th of July: Is the United States a representative democracy or a mirage democracy? by KevinZeese.
Glad you mentioned October 6th. Of all the projects I am working on October2011.org is the most important. It brings all the issues together recognizing the common enemy of the power of concentrated corporate power. The goal is to end militarism and corporatism. People need to join us in building this. Visit http://www.October2011.org and sign [...]

One out of four of the world’s prisoners are residing in the land of the free. With only 5% of the world’s population we have 25% of the world’s prisoners. And, 1 out of 32 Americans is on probation, parole or in prison. How many tens of millions of police cameras monitor Americans. Now, drones [...]

We live in a very sophisticated propaganda society. The corporate media puts on x-generals, x-national security and x-intelligence officials to discuss war. They put on former corporate elected officials and campaign managers to discuss politics. They spice those x’s with current officeholders, sometimes a corporate funded think tank gets on. We hear lots of people [...]

We can do a lot. We have more power than we realize. We need to act in unity, independent of the two parties and the corporate media. Our demands need to be clear and uncompromising. We have the power if we mobilize. Sign up and spread the word: http://www.October2011.org.

MSNBC and CNN do their fair share of brainwashing as well. FOX on the right, MSNBC for the Dems and CNN for the corporations. If you turn them off for awhile and get your news from other sources, then when you go back you can see through the FOG (Forces of Greed). The propaganda is [...]

The Dems are not caving. They are giving their major donors what they want. They know they can take their more porgressive voters for granted because elections are rigged to give them nowhere else to go. The only wasted vote is a vote for either corporate party. We need independent elections, to go along with [...]

That would be an interesting graphic, Jane. Would love to see it. The “democracy” is a mess. Voters are manipulated into voting against their interests out of fear of the other (this works on both Republican-leaners and Dem-leaners). Of course, the reality is the two parties mostly agree. They really are tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum — [...]

KevinZeese commented on the diary post A Question for Reflection on the 4th of July: Is the United States a representative democracy or a mirage democracy? by KevinZeese.
Really good points Alan. Some countries now require that 50% of their legislature be women, in order to ensure representation. The lack of Indians, when they have a significant population in the state is a sign of non-representation. It is not only workers in the workplace, but there is a need to democtratize the economy. [...]

There are so many problems in our “democracy” that it would be a long laundry list if I listed them all. Expanding the House is definitely something that is needed. And, we need to remake the Senate. One of the big problems is tiny population states have two votes in the senate. They are smaller [...]

KevinZeese wrote a new diary post: A Question for Reflection on the 4th of July: Is the United States a representative democracy or a mirage democracy?
By Kevin Zeese It is a shame to have to ask whether democracy is a mirage in the United States, no doubt most Americans would rather be celebrating U.S. democracy than questioning it. But the reality of the disconnect between government and the people has become so stark it is impossible to ignore. Gallup reports that [...]
