We can argue about the rightness or wrongness of Obama’s decision here all day, and I’m sure there’ll be plenty of questions to go around. But I’m not interested in telling someone who’s been personally affected by Bin Laden’s terrorism how they should feel about it.

You can if you want. I don’t think I’d be interested in being that rude or presumptuous.

Gotta wonder how any of that relates to my comment, but okay.

Well, at the very least, this makes a nice club for Obama to beat over the heads of the Republicans all next year.

Are you sure about that? A bunch of crowds at Ground Zero and the White House would seem to indicate otherwise.

You’re apparently not reading very well. The commenter was specifically saying that if the women were raped, they were at fault for changing their minds about having sex with him. That’s victim-blaming at it’s finest. Is that what you came here to endorse?

Link? And yeah, I feel like it’s a really slippery slope to be questioning the accounts of rape victims. What evidence do you have that they’re lying, other than what you “believe”?

Aw, I wanna know what he said.

It’s disrespectful to victims of rape to doubt the word of…victims of rape. This has to be the first time I’ve seen a man be eaten by the Mobius strip of his own logic.

Are you fucking serious? Are you honestly denying these women the right to their own bodily autonomy?
A woman’s body is her own property and she has the absolute right to decide who does what to it at any given time. Do the words “No means no” mean anything? Seriously, am I reading this retrograde shit on a progressive blog?

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/19/world/europe/19assange.html?_r=1
According to accounts the women gave to the police and friends, they each had consensual sexual encounters with Mr. Assange that became nonconsensual. One woman said that Mr. Assange had ignored her appeals to stop after a condom broke. The other woman said that she and Mr. Assange had begun a sexual encounter using a condom, but that Mr. Assange did not comply with her appeals to stop when it was no longer in use. Mr. Assange has questioned the veracity of those accounts.
Those bolded parts are textbook definitions of rape. I have no doubt that the persecution of Assange is politically motivated, because when does law enforcement usually give a fuck about rape victims normally. However, that does not change the fact that the law is doing exactly what, ideally, they should be expected to do in this instance. I’m very uncomfortable with the implication that we should just toss these women’s words aside, seeing as there always seems to be a reason to disbelieve rape victims in any instance.

One of the woman stated that they were having sex and she asked him to stop and he didn’t. How is that not rape?
Seriously, folks. It’s possible to approve of what Assange is doing with Wikileaks and still believe he might be a rapist and a horrible person. Really. It’s not an either/or choice.
