That’s a huge assumption based on what?

Actually post the most recent Greek election the main party opposed to the austerity crap, Syriza, has been polling higher than they did pre-election.

Quite possibly the voters of Greece will tell German bankers and leaders exactly what they can go do with themselves and follow Argentina’s example for recovery.

Most left wing Vatican II Catholics I know are either leaving the Church or running services on their own. They have given up on the institutional church.

Of course he will cave, it is what he does best. That and protect Big Banks and Wall Street.

“if that contract is now seen to be broken, what is the status of the morality of taking individual vengeance?”

Morality will be defined by those at the top I am sure but the individual vengeance you speak of will regrettable come soon.

Yes but… In my humble opinion the Occupy movement is the last real peaceful effort to bring about change. Now that it has been mostly crushed and all other avenues or redress have been co-opted or denied, now comes ugly. Ugly will be riots, ugly will be violence. The Administration knows this will come because [...]

Blank the Obama Administration, blank the state AG’s and blank the banks this is beyond wrong, this is evil. Everyone who is underwater at this point on their mortgage should just walk away and leave the banks with inventory they cannot sell. If the social contract is truly dead then it is time for those [...]

    BeachPopulist,

In two short paragraphs you have summed up my experience perfectly. Before the Public Option I was a Democratic Party activist for 15 years in Ohio, Nevada and California. I believed Obama’s campaign promises: donated money, worked on his campaign and voted for him.

His killing of the Public Option was the ultimate and final betrayal and the end of my involvement with the Party. I am done. I changed my registration to Independent – Socialist. One of the saddest and one of the most profound days of my forty years.

I think Obama and the Democrats do not fully appreciate that they have lost a generation that might have backed them in the future. They are gambling that big money will offset the numbers of activists they have lost. I think in the end they will lose the gamble. Things have simply become too bad for that to wash.

    Again, well said.

“People who think they can reform the Democrat Party are simply delusional. Both parties and owned by the rich, their internal life is the antithesis of democratic and it’s steeped in corruption. ” I agree eventually viable 3rd parties are going to have to compete or we will continue the slid into the abyss as [...]

  • Very important to note here:

”Police in Santa Cruz say they “need the public’s help to identify protesters in the photos” of occupiers who stormed a former Santa Cruz bank building and occupied it for three days earlier this month. ”

The police are trying to claim that these people are the same as those involved with Occupy Santa Cruz and they have used that as a pretext to crush the movement as a whole. As I said in my recent blog post, local media are making this claim as well.

As the Occupy Supply Liasion to Occupy Santa Cruz I can tell you these are two DIFFERENT groups. OCS wants this clearly stated.

Thumbnail Well as appears across the country the powers that be have decided it is time to close down the Occupy Movement by shutting down their encampments.    To this extent Santa Cruz, California is no different.  As indicated in previous posts Occupy Santa Cruz occupied a unique geographic place: partially on County property, partially on city [...]

I am Hispanic, under 50 and don’t make anything near 60 k. Nice try, thanks for playing.

ThumbnailOccupy Santa Cruz’ encampment lies uniquely on both city and county government.  Until recently both governments responded with similar disdain that many cities have shown toward their citizens rallying against vast economic inequality.  Now though a split has emerged between these two governments.  The city filed an injunction against the campers on the city side.   Lawyers [...]

Thumbnail Santa Cruz is known for many things: beautiful beaches, colleges, artists, a fanatical war on the homeless and the utter lack of affordable housing.   Most visitors and residents cite the fantastic weather influencing their description of Santa Cruz as paradise.  Well there is trouble in paradise as Occupy Santa Cruz continues to weather several storms.  [...]

“The real question is: Can the emerging protest movements stay alive in the absence of something like the Counter Culture of the Sixties? Has enough work been done to build a culture of dissent to sustain them?” I think the total death of the American Dream and the attacks of the Administration and Congress on [...]

  • Eclair, extremely well said.

  • The police are employing intimidation tactics to get the protestors to back down. This is a mistake, they have only fired up the protestors.

  • “So what if, according to the NYT, the protesters are leaderless, inchoate, and have their own reasons for marching…”

Actually it is a brilliant tactic to be leaderless. Movement leaders can be arrested, tortured and assassinated. The protestors know this.
