A surprising lack of property damage in that area if bombs were going off

    Good point.

Thank you Mercy. Common sense. TBMB has a whole section of witness reports, most of which conflict with each other. Police scanner reports delineate a scene of total chaos. This entire Watertown story is totally down the rabbit hole. IMO anyone who presumes to try to make sense of it to suit their preconceptions is [...]

    He saw “someone” throwing explosives.

The scene was chaos. Others were involved. The brothers were defending themselves. Maybe we will learn more at the trial.

Thanks for this pertinent link, Jane.

I’m struck by the prosecutor’s comment about the defense trying to steal an unfair advantage.

I have to repeat my previous comment. Should this trial really be a game, in which the parties are more concerned with winning than with getting to the real truth?

To clarify further … It is unfortunate that these three boys who were not at all involved in the bombing, were threatened with such harsh sentences. The object of that seems to be chiefly to “turn” them against DT and encourage them to provide damaging testimony. Reasonable doubt? Out. Innocent until proven guilty? Out. “Finding [...]

From the beginning, I have more or less agreed with you on this one. It appears the Three Friends intended to conceal evidence, which is a crime in itself. (From my point of view, I have noted the irony that they were trying to protect a friend who may not have committed a crime at [...]

And yes, events were so crazy in Watertown, I would not rule out the planting of devices. There were “mystery shooters” all over the place. Police scanners reported numerous people throwing dynamite or grenades. All of them could not have been the Tsarnaevs unless they were able to clone themselves.

IMO the events in Watertown, because they make no sense in terms of any real “escape attempt,” speak even more to the brothers’ innocence than do the events at the Marathon. They may have been set up to be killed in Watertown, possibly by means of the phone conversation with an FBI agent which Tamerlan [...]

I’m cynical, but in this case, “reasonable doubt” may have gone the way of “innocent until proven guilty.” Out the window.

Also, weren’t the Tsarnaevs “identified” after Collier was killed? If they are changing that story yet again, they can’t avoid the fact that the FBI lied about not knowing who the brothers were until Tamerlan’s body was fingerprinted. They can’t win with that one. I thought there was some idea that Collier was on the lookout [...]

Wasn’t he killed while sitting in his car, not pursuing anyone? He was on the job, so I suppose that qualifies as “in the line of duty.”

    Will DT himself testify?

I deeply hope so. I think I would get in line starting at midnight, to get into the courtroom to hear that.

why was there a need to instill Islamophobia?

To justify endless American foreign wars against Muslim countries?

To erode civil rights at home, starting with Muslims and then expanding to all of us?

Thanks wb for a concise statement of the issue. I echo and affirm the other comments. I’m no longer shocked by ridiculous prosecution statements. Remember “The media coverage in Boston is not prejudicial”? With O’Toole to back them up, they can pretty much say anything they want. I think these allegedly frightened witnesses will mostly [...]

And speaking of broadening the definition of terrorism: A couple of days ago in our local news area, a guy who tried to blow up an ATM in order to steal the money has been charged with using a Weapon of Mass Destruction. If one goal of organized terrorism is to make governments and LE [...]

Thanks Jane for posting the Guardian article which does contain a complete copy of Frein’s letter to his parents. A strangely eloquent and sad commentary on the state of our country. I can only echo what Guardian commenters said, that much of what EF says is true, but the action he took of attacking two [...]

    and Bernache

Yes. Heather repeats several times: “The bomb exploded right next to me.”

I think a woman tried to carry or drag Heather out the BACK door to get her to some help.
