I note the defense brought up the McPhee story, but the judge shrugged it off (again). If the media wants to print scurrilous inaccurate Islamophobic stories, or make inaccurate TV shows about the bombing, O’Toole is obviously OK with that.

Your 1 and 2 points are what I am thinking (along with WoodyBox and others). We don’t know where the witnesses were (inside the Forum, next door at Starbucks?). I wouldn’t necessarily credit the trash can story at all, except for the Ed Davis quote, which is very interesting.

and mercy @54 Thank you both. The Davis quote is indeed very specific and apparently backed up by witnesses. I wonder at what point this story was smothered. I can’t find a picture of an actual trash can. If there is one, I suspect it’s farther back on the patio (which would be the logical [...]

Are you making a point or drawing a parallel, or just having fun? Anyway it’s a spooky concidence, because yesterday I saw a simulcast of that play being performed in London, with Gillian Anderson/Agent Scully as Blanche. Gillian left Vivian Leigh in the dust. A truly stunning performance. To make this vaguely on topic, I [...]

Very good to hear that there is criticism. My feeling about this case from the start is that those who wish to convict Dzhokhar have practiced extreme overkill … first with the ridiculous Watertown story, then with ignorant misinfo and fear-mongering about Muslims. We aren’t the only ones who are seeing this sort of thing [...]

If you google Michelle McPhee and Jihad Watch, you will find that this prominent Islamophobic website LOVES to quote her. They appear to be big fans of her work.

JW and Robert Spencer are well-funded members of what the Council for Islamic American Relations calls the “Islamophobia Network.”

Not surprising. The defense may take a page from the trials of the “three friends” to debunk the use of fireworks as material for the pressure cooker bombs. Concerning Robel’s trial, the defense used the arguments that Robel was terminally confused by excessive pot use, and also that Dias and Aza were most likely speaking [...]

The artwork alone looks like a poster for a “B” grade horror movie!

Yes, those are the depths that the government has sunk to. With any luck, intelligent people on the jury will see through this extreme overkill and question the prosecution’s motives.

Elena Teyer is Ibragim Todashev’s ex-mother-in-law. She offered Khair Matanov a room in her home after his arrest. Her daughter visited the Tsarnaev parents in Russia, where they “cried so much there’s just no tears left.” Elena has said “I am recently retired from active duty in the US Army. I’m not like these kids [...]

Good rant Mercy! Yes, I am dreading more of this kind of poisonous inaccurate Islamophobic trash turning up as the trial date nears.

I have heard about this trash can before. Do you have specific sources for this? Is it inside the railings where the tables were?

Thank you wb and omramzey. Good catch about Ruslan’s son staying with the Tsarnaevs! It would appear that suspicions about Uncle R may be well founded. I have not read the Newsweek article. Based on the cover, there seems to be some suggestion that Tsarnaev women are “encouraging jihad” and maybe even cheering for ISIL?? [...]

How about: “All the Muslims, with ISIL at their head, are going to invade the U.S. with Ebola germs as their weapons”?

American consumers, be very very afraid. Keep watching cable news and be sure to buy the sponsors’ products while you still can (since we’re all going to DIE soon!)

possibly his masters used the opportunity that was the BMB to dispose of an “asset” who was likely becoming a liability. (Possibly due to his mental health status.) I think this is plausible. I’m not inclined to paint Tamerlan as a saint. He seems like someone who was rather erratic. We know his mother got him [...]

and lc @84 You sum it up very effectively. Receipt conveniently found in the Honda? Oh, did the receipt specify “black backpack to be used to conceal a bomb”? Yes wb, that’s what they will need, a video of Dzhokhar switching the light colored backpack we all saw him carrying, and picking up one of [...]

Thanks Mercy for the clarification. From Geller’s tweets it almost sounds as if the defense was trying to imply that the investigators found a different backpack in the dump than the one that was taken from Dzhokhar’s room. Or at least they were trying to create doubt and confusion. Give them points for trying.

Thanks for the tweets, pbsz. The question of the color of the backpack in the dump is intriguing (as is the question of backpack colors at the Marathon). The defense seems to be saying that the Feds found a different color backpack than they were originally looking for. Agent Benton says they were looking for [...]

Interesting speculation. There is a series of tweets (unsubstantiated and anonymous, but rather interesting IMO) in which a masseuse in NJ says she had a brief conversation with Tamerlan. She claims he told her he was going to the Marathon “with my company, to do a drill, for security.” “The Company” is the CIA, correct? [...]
