    OK, Suzanne. How ’bout you?

Love Lee, have a couple or so of her albums, vinyl. But I read a bio and if it was accurate, Lee was seriously mentally ill. Never knew that.

Not the slightest chance. Not from the Senator from MBNA. And not from the enthralled by and in thrall to Clintons, whose personal fortunes are money machine dependent.

I’d like to see Christ remain as a moderate Republican. Back in my youth, there was such a thing as a liberal Republican. And respectable Republicans did not invade people’s private lives. Christ might be most helpful as a decent Republican moderate. A beacon of sensible, responsible Republicanism, as it were.

Exactly, screwed either way. Colbert-Busch is described as a businessperson and she sounds like one: a somewhat less rightish Republican. And Mark Sanford may be at least as difficult for his putative colleagues as for Democrats, uncooperative and uncompromising.

I’ve seen Sanford described as uncooperative and fractious, so maybe he’s advantageous in a way the DINO Colbert-Busch wouldn’t have been. I don’t need another ballot line Dem voting the Republican agenda.

Gail Sheehy’s Passages came out at the end of the 70s and I remember one of her researched findings was that anyone in his mid-fifties who lost a job most likely would never work full time again. It’s almost the only thing I remember from the book. She also found that 80 percent of the “judgment” jobs were only visible in the professional grapevines.

Maybe the grapevines have extended themselves into body shops but the employment fortunes of fifty-ish workers at any level have, at best, not changed.

The temporary Dark Ages lasted about 500 years. You could be right, tho, as a group of French historians studies the long arcs of history and 600 years, give or take, marks the trajectories. By their reckoning, capitalism is in its death throes.

Concur. YS wrote at NC that she had a conversation with a Harvard classmate who described Obie as a master of the statement of the trivially obvious, along the lines of water is wet. O, like any singly focused, um, entity, is completely attuned to the system and its minutest workings. Just last week, had a conversation with a mosquito control worker about the advantages of single purpose organisms: everything they are is pointed to one goal. Extremely effective–and in the mosquito, no brains, to speak of.

So if Obie can’t get his Grand Bargain thru this Congress, he can count on the 2014 Congress? No, not from this SS pensioner.
