Linnaeus commented on the blog post Academia Is Being Totally Racist Against Glib Self-Regarding Hacks
Well, if we really want to be rigorous about this, Riley probably couldn’t have read the dissertations, since they’re in progress. The only people likely reading the students’ work at this point would be their advisors and maybe other students in their programs.
But this, however, doesn’t help Riley’s case at all. Because she could have read published work in black studies, which would seem to be the reasonable thing to do, particularly if she wants to make the case that the entire discipline is unworthy of having a place in the academy. There’s even an entire journal devoted to black studies, which has the rarified and obscurantist title of Journal of Black Studies. But to expect Riley to set foot in a university library (I guess there are none of those in New York City) and peruse even one issue is a blatant instance of political correctness. Or something.

The polar bear exhibit at the Detroit Zoo was one of the best in North America. Don’t know if that’s still true, as it’s been a while since I’ve been there.

And Shut. Up. I know it’s probably hotter where you live.
Not up here in the Emerald City. We did hit around 80 sometime last week, and now we’re back to upper 60s. It might hit 70 in the next couple of days. Maybe.
We didn’t have much of a spring, and I’m thinking we may not have much of a summer up here. A shame, really.

Maybe Tim Russert’s “blue collarness” stems from his attendance at Ten Cent Beer Night.

Who knows? One thing is clear: increasing inequality is totally defining our society. And it’s not entirely clear how the newly redefined society is going to end up.

I have to say that I have few complaints about my BlackBerry. An iPhone would be easier to integrate with my computer (because I use an iMac), but I can’t justify the added expense of an iPhone right now.

I’d be interested in what people have to say about this critique of the Chrysler ad; I think there’s some fair points to be made, but it’s a little dismissive as to why it’s appealing.

Being a Motor City Kitties fan, it’s hard for me to cheer for an NFC North rival, but I’m kinda tired of the Steelers and I don’t think much of Ben Roethlisberger. So, go Pack.

Having attended Oregon State, it’s actually not as pinkocommieislamofascist as you might think. Definitely less so than UO.
I’m very glad, though, that she’s pictured wearing an Ohio State sweatshirt. She’s all yours, Buckeyes.
