George Tierney Jr. of Greenville South Carolina might not be aware that the Library of Congress acquired the entire Twitter archive in 2010. Congratulations!

Bears and monkeys? Actually I guess I’m more scared of the armed humans.

well, from what I understand the state just wants the kids to actually make up the day.

I have been playing computer scrabble like a madwoman, so haven’t noticed much about my surroundings. Oh i did hear that the school(s) that cancelled a day of classes when those animals were loose were all upset that the state wouldn’t grant them a “snow day.”

Oh good! I was hoping to hear this news. Happy for you!

Margot commented on the blog post Always Something There To Remind Me
I was surprised how much I enjoyed mine (40th also), although I got called away and had to fly home due to a family member’s surgery. Amazing what people have been up to and how interesting their lives have been. One guy had been on Sarah Palin’s election committee. Did not have much in common with him then or now but was so fond of some others.

Margot commented on the blog post FDL Book Salon Welcomes Eric Laursen, The People’s Pension: The Struggle to Defend Social Security Since Reagan
You change the conversation. It’s not about whether we can afford Social Security. It’s about whether we could possibly afford to do without it. We can’t. Slashing benefits or creating private accounts wouldn’t eliminate any costs for old age – it would merely shift the costs from the collectivity – us – to working households. This doesn’t work. Shifting the conversation in this direction is the way to win.
Thanks!

I’m astonished to find out about the propaganda that’s been flowing over and into us like mucky fertilizer. How did I never notice it?
You have a chapter called “What’s In It For Me?” in which you talk about a slick campaign directed at Gen Xers. I hear the refrain from younger people now; “oh i’ll never get anything from Social Security.”
How do we combat this? How to change the view now? -

I’m still reading your book and wanted to thank you for your chapter about the War Against the Geezers.
Now I know when it started and how Reagan started calling it an “entitlement.”
The bits about Townsend were interesting–I remember my mother talking about this. -

I wonder if unusual sleepiness has anything to do with these flares? Cuz I haz it. Night:) -

It’s something to do with solar flares. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Bravo. Thank you for your years of teaching!
One of my sons was in a ‘failing’ school. I had it from a very good source (a teacher) that there were instructions from higher-ups to change answers, ‘guide’ children toward correct answers, etc. This teacher refused and wasn’t kept on. -

bg, I remember swamp coolers fondly. Seemed a lot cheaper than regular a/c.
Neighbor was helping me figure out where it is sunny enough to put tomato plants. I got some at the farmer’s market today, and some lavender, so I better get them in the ground. - Load More
