MartyInNH commented on the blog post Voters Are Curious About Romney’s Tax Returns
Well, maybe. I file I&D and I am not aware of any way to shelter Federally reportable income if you claim residency. The other interesting angle about the unreleased state taxes is that if he were to have filed I&D as a resident, and have simultaneously claimed Massachusetts residency since he voted in the Brown/Coakley special, it would be voter fraud.

“now lives in New Hampshire w/ no income tax”
Just to be clear, we have an Interest and Dividends tax, flat 5% on interest and dividends, but not capital gains. Chances are excellent he would have had to file that.

I believe prisons should always be run directly by the government.

November cannot come soon enough. Then we can begin to steer away from the extreme agenda that has been enacted the last two years. This is one of the reasons I am a candidate for State Representative. We have an unusual device called the Executive Council that approves these contracts. Right now it is packed [...]

You have the exact same access to write things here that Pam or I or anyone else has.
Seeing as you apparently know what a majority of the electorate wants, it would be great if you would share that. It would probably help me in my State Rep race.

I claim Tom Parmenter was the first blogger. He was writing something named Desperado that we would today recognize as a blog in 1978.

Actually, I was curious about ThingsComeUndone. In the context of a great deal of “you should have said this” and “you should have done that” commentary. Your 47 is correct. There is no longer a way to be safe from physical harm or arrest by acting prudently. This is particularly troubling me in the case [...]

An “independent expenditure” committee is not supposed to coordinate with the campaign in any way. You know this is an independent expenditure committee becasuse of the “not authorized by” phraseology. That is why they are calling the same voters using their own voter lists and their own people. The candidate’s party organization cannot stop them [...]

MartyInNH commented on the blog post Occupy: Facing Off With the Stormtroopers of Wall Street & the 1%
It seems to me that there have been an alarming number of seizures reported had by people taken into custody.
I hope someone reading this who is in a position to know what is normal, and who has access to a way to get data, will take an interest into looking into why this is.

MartyInNH commented on the blog post Mass Arrest of Occupy Oakland Protesters After Police Fire Various Weapons
I’ll just make two points:
It was really nice having the regional gathering around the NH Primary. Wonderful to have people from Occupy Wall Street (the one in NYC) and Boston and Maine and lots of other locations around to exchange ideas and tactics and just get to know them while doing actions.
So whatever happens on the West Coast that gets the Occupiers in the same city, it should be worth it. The skirmish hardened folks and the less so. Less than ideal you may have to get to know one another right off the bat in the context of a skirmish (over the port).
Second thing:
I would distinguish the individuals who aligned with the Tea Party and those (Dick Armey and Koch and the bought media) who were the top-down funders and PR and bus renters. Same with individuals who support Ron Paul as against the top-down party structure and national campaign organization. Like applepie, I don’t trust the organizers for a second to have my interests at heart.
I think you can have a discussion with the individuals and find common ground. I had a discussion after one of the campaign events I went to with some Paul supporters and found that they are really up on their issues and can talk politics and solutions. Only a few of the solutions I agree with, but it’s a starting point. I think you would have the same with some of the economic frustrations that rank and file Tea Partiers have.
Whatever we can do in outreach to get the number of supporters closer to 99% of the population is a good idea.

“Got DHSed”. Like it. Same pronunciation as “got dissed”.
The only real thing I have to add to this is, Boston spent a lot of energy dealing with the addicts who were living there that they could have used in other ways, without having the necessary training to deal with addicts. The GA was unwilling to put those folks back on the streets even to the bitter end.

MartyInNH commented on the blog post Congressional Hearing on Occupy DC: Open Thread
Every member of the House is elected at every two-year cycle. If there is a vacancy, it must be filled by special election.
The Senate terms are six years and rotated so that approximately one-third of the Senate is elected each cycle. If therre is a vacancy, State law determines the procedure by which it is filled.

I have to admit, I don’t think I’ve ever heard an Occupier use the word “callow”.
I don’t know if it rises to the level of feeling heat, but it sure is clueless. Reminiscent of the CSI set that the Wall Street people spent time in. Hey look it has a kitchen and a library and wow are these signs lame.
