I didn’t see it either, but if it’s this RT, it’s a Russian news organization.

MartyInNH commented on the blog post Occupy: Facing Off With the Stormtroopers of Wall Street & the 1%
It seems to me that there have been an alarming number of seizures reported had by people taken into custody.
I hope someone reading this who is in a position to know what is normal, and who has access to a way to get data, will take an interest into looking into why this is.

MartyInNH commented on the blog post Mass Arrest of Occupy Oakland Protesters After Police Fire Various Weapons
I’ll just make two points:
It was really nice having the regional gathering around the NH Primary. Wonderful to have people from Occupy Wall Street (the one in NYC) and Boston and Maine and lots of other locations around to exchange ideas and tactics and just get to know them while doing actions.
So whatever happens on the West Coast that gets the Occupiers in the same city, it should be worth it. The skirmish hardened folks and the less so. Less than ideal you may have to get to know one another right off the bat in the context of a skirmish (over the port).
Second thing:
I would distinguish the individuals who aligned with the Tea Party and those (Dick Armey and Koch and the bought media) who were the top-down funders and PR and bus renters. Same with individuals who support Ron Paul as against the top-down party structure and national campaign organization. Like applepie, I don’t trust the organizers for a second to have my interests at heart.
I think you can have a discussion with the individuals and find common ground. I had a discussion after one of the campaign events I went to with some Paul supporters and found that they are really up on their issues and can talk politics and solutions. Only a few of the solutions I agree with, but it’s a starting point. I think you would have the same with some of the economic frustrations that rank and file Tea Partiers have.
Whatever we can do in outreach to get the number of supporters closer to 99% of the population is a good idea.

“Got DHSed”. Like it. Same pronunciation as “got dissed”.
The only real thing I have to add to this is, Boston spent a lot of energy dealing with the addicts who were living there that they could have used in other ways, without having the necessary training to deal with addicts. The GA was unwilling to put those folks back on the streets even to the bitter end.

MartyInNH commented on the blog post Congressional Hearing on Occupy DC: Open Thread
Every member of the House is elected at every two-year cycle. If there is a vacancy, it must be filled by special election.
The Senate terms are six years and rotated so that approximately one-third of the Senate is elected each cycle. If therre is a vacancy, State law determines the procedure by which it is filled.

I have to admit, I don’t think I’ve ever heard an Occupier use the word “callow”.
I don’t know if it rises to the level of feeling heat, but it sure is clueless. Reminiscent of the CSI set that the Wall Street people spent time in. Hey look it has a kitchen and a library and wow are these signs lame.

I would add (3) there should be full disclosure of all campaign contributions from corporations and from natural persons. No more soft money, super PACs, undisclosed unlimited funds.
Your points about (1) money is not protected speech (2) there should be caps on campaign contributions for corporations as there are for natural persons I am in total agreement with.
That, and, given there is a Supreme Court ruling on Constitutional grounds we will need a Constitutional amendment to reverse this situation.

Another important reason is that it is a way to counteract the tendency of the same people to grab for leadership roles over and over. Think of those who ran for student body president in school. If for example we rotate the facilitation team roles through as many people as possible, it gives others practice in taking leadership, speaking to gatherings, resolving conflict, and they will have greater confidence as they do it the next time. It also allows those people to spawn out into new groups as they are formed.

In many Occupations, there are ACLU or National Lawyers Guild attorneys involved. They do pre-arrest briefing, representation after arrest, and filing of other motions for restraining orders or other relief as required. A recent example is the filing to get the barriers in New York dismantled. Another example is the filing for a temporary restraining order to prevent eviction in Boston.

Just back from the debate. I concur with Matt, there were more Occupiers than all the candidate supporters combined. And we made much more noise. Some minor friction around the edges with the candidates’ people.
The farthest travel distance I saw today was Hartford and Portland ME. It was lovely to have so many people from New York and Boston and Maine and everywhere else. A truly regional gathering.
If I might pull one other picture out of Matt’s twitter stream, this is a tent that we have at Veterans Park with a projector inside. Kind of like a rear projection bat-signal (the message does change every few seconds).
