What surprises is me is how relentless Obama is in wanting to cut Social Security benefits. He caves on everything else.

Total rubbish. The large majority of both Republican and Democratic voters do not want cuts to Social Security benefits. People vote for Republicans and for Democrats for a number of reasons. To state they vote Republican because they want their social security benefits cut is idiotic.

Is Obama a Republican mole? Is the Pope Catholic? The economy is weak and it looks like we are reentering recession. While totally ignoring that the economy is heading for the toilet, all Obama can do is steal from seniors. All we have had since the historic economic collapse of 2008 is doubling down on the same failed economic policy that got us into this mess.

I could not find it on Huffington Post. So Obama wants to kick granny to the curb with chained CPI. Excuse me, Superlative CPI. Well, I call it the granny stompin CPI.

matt1951 commented on the blog post Chained CPI for Social Security May be Second Stupidest Idea in Washington

The Social Security projections are for lifespan to increase at the same rate for the next 70 years as it has for the past 50 years. This in highly unlikely, as every species has some lifespan that can’t be exceeded. Currently, Latinos have the longest lifespan, then whites, then blacks. For white people with less than a high school education, the lifespan has dropped five years for women, and three years for men. Life expectancy, considering obesity and type II diabetes, is probably not going to increase forevermore.
For Medicare, medical costs have come under control since 2008. The idea that medical costs would explode forever is also false.
Never let a crisis go to waste, this crisis has been created to destroy Social Security and Medicare – Heck of a job Obama.

You are absolutely correct. Obaminator left most of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy alone, pretending he put taxes for the wealthy back to where they were under Clinton.

The Bush tax cuts ended for those making more than $400,000? Not really. One example: Dividends are now taxed as capital gains at a 20% rate, not as ordinary income at a 39.6% rate. As another example: the inheritance tax was not increased, it is actually lower than it was under Bush. http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/i/inheritance_and_estate_taxes/index.html. It would be more accurate to state, certain taxes on those making over $400,000 were raised in a minor way, but some of the most generous of the Bush era tax cuts were retained or even enhanced for those making over $400,000.
That is one reason Jamie Dimon has so much money.

matt1951 commented on the blog post What the Sequester Fight Shows About the Bipartisan Fetish

Obama is not smart or effective which is the only thing that might save us from him imposing the chained CPI. Boehner, the strange orange alcoholic, represents a Republican party that only represents the Oligarchs. The sequester should be postponed if they can’t agree to just get rid of it. Once the Federal government shuts down when civil servants are furloughed, there is a real danger the people will revolt – at least at the ballot box.

Clinton lowered the capital gains tax from the Reagan 28% down to 20%. Bush lowered them to 15%, now it is back to 20%. Bush taxed dividends at the capital gains rate rather than the ordinary income rate, which Obama has now locked in place. Face it, we are now a banana republic ruled by oligarchs. Mexico did not become America, America became Mexico.

Chained CPI also increases the income tax. Chained CPI reduces the Social Security salary cap. Chained CPI is a bad idea in every way, which is probably the reason Obama, Pelosi and all the other Republicans (Obama and Pelosi are DINOs) like it. Hopefully Reid stands by his commitment to not cut Social Security.
