matthewj commented on the blog post This Election Is a Referendum on Obama
Right on. I am just about done with FDL and the continual nonsense about the election. That said, if it did matter and were a referendum on Obama then let him lose. The man has done absolutely nothing to deserve surviving a referendum…

matthewj commented on the blog post The Eight Big Mistakes Democrats Made Regarding the Constitutionality of ObamaCare
Sorry, I’ve wasted enough time writing diaries on here in the past, some of which were quite popular. Nothing happens. The leaders of the site simply do not wish to change. They do not want to try anything outside of criticizing Democrats. What a wasteful bore…

matthewj commented on the blog post The Eight Big Mistakes Democrats Made Regarding the Constitutionality of ObamaCare
It doesn’t take courage for me to tell the truth. It is sad, but FDL appears to be going downhill with their inability to complete the break with the Democrats and start supporting a realistic strategy to changing the country. FDL is only willing to criticize Democrats but not disown them. Instead of breaking out of the veal pen they appear to be content as the left wing of the veal pen who hypocritically criticizes the rest of the veal pen…

I’m glad there are a couple commenters who see through the fantasy framing that seems to be happening all too regularly here…

matthewj commented on the blog post The Eight Big Mistakes Democrats Made Regarding the Constitutionality of ObamaCare
Why do you and others here insist on continuing posts like this which pretend the Democrats want things that might be good for the people and bad for a large corporate interest (such as ACA standing without the mandate)? The mandate was the whole point of the law. It was designed as a handout to the insurance companies both in the form of a huge new guaranteed customer base and in the form of a “solution” to the health care issue in this country that allows profit interests to stay at the center of the health care system. The idea that Democratic leaders want this law to stand without the mandate is flawed at its core.
I’m about to stop visiting FDL if you don’t reform the framework you’re using to evaluate issues like this. Start writing about the real world of corrupt politics as it exists rather than a fantasy world in which Democrats are simply inept and in need of better strategy rather than fundamentally corrupt and beyond hope.

matthewj commented on the blog post Unlike Conservative Critics, GOP Base Has Favorable View of Mitt Romney
Why am I getting the uncomfortable feeling that FDL is subtly supporting Romney in the GOP primary? I don’t meant to imply FDL would support him in the general, but there does seem to be some kind of pro-Romney bias, anti-Ron Paul bias by the lead posters.

This is exactly the reaction I had to AE while taking their poll. Framing was insidious for so many of the questions…

matthewj commented on the blog post Is Ron Paul Now the Most Electable Republican?
Legalizing heroin, by itself, proves him to be a flake.
I guess you don’t believe in freedom then. By what legitimacy does the state invade a person’s private life and apply criminal punishment just because they are doing something that might be bad for themselves? What’s next? Felony gluttony?
I have never tried heroin and think it is likely a very evil substance but that does not mean criminalizing it is a good idea. We have succeeded far more in reducing harm from tobacco than anything else, all without involving the criminal justice system.
I do not wish to live in a nanny state. I wish to be free to make my own choices, good or bad, so long as I am not harming others. What is it that is so appealing about legislating morality? I just don’t get it…
The law should be used to protect our rights from damage by others, not to impinge our freedom to make our own choices just because a majority does not agree with them. That is called tyranny of the majority and it is a pretty serious problem.

matthewj commented on the blog post Latest #OccupySupply Update – Coats Arrive!
This is great, but are there still enough Occupiers in cold weather climates to make use of all this? It would be interesting to get an update on the state of the occupy movement after all the raids and evictions over the past few weeks…

matthewj commented on the blog post Support for Occupy Wall Street Unchanged Since Late Month
This is complete baloney. The movement needs to continue pushing to educate about exactly how messed up our system is and demonstrate this via actions which provoke unjustified and insane reactions by the state. We absolutely need widespread change if we’re going to stand a chance at passing a livable world and free society down to future generations.

Good Point. Chain of Command – Kissinger –>
Obama –> DHS –> Mayors –> Police –> bludgeon and pepper spray kids and old ladies.Henry Kissinger does not have the threat of 9/11 exposure hanging over his head. Dick Cheney does.
Good point. And Dick is Obama’s cousin…

Working with the system is a fool’s game at this point. We need to continue working outside the system and not acknowledge it as having legitimacy.

Yes, I agree that what matters most is how many. And as you state, that is why coordination is important. Getting these votes counted is the most difficult part and would be made more difficult without coordination. As for how to get the numbers, I think that is up to each of us. First, but [...]
