mekathleen commented on the blog post Dems Hold Large Lead in Generic Ballot, But It Might Not Be Enough
There isn’t a Democrat in my state who doesn’t support Blue Dog policies. The only times the “progressives” vote against them is when the vote is so lopsided that the result is a foregone conclusion. If chained-CPI is a close vote, they’ll vote for it to support President Obama, no matter what they say now. And they’ll say it was the best they could do while blaming Republicans.

Do we even need to call them Blue Dogs? I think at this point Blue Dog is a synonym for Democrat.

mekathleen commented on the blog post Why Insurance Exchanges Won’t Work: People Don’t Like Choosing Insurance
Most commercial insurance brokerage firms do employee benefits consulting. Because the cost of the broker would come out of the carrier’s MLR, though, who knows what will happen in the future. It may be a service paid for separately by buyers in the future.
Compliance is the biggest issue with employee benefits, and if brokers aren’t paid, then companies generally need at least one full-time employee benefits specialist to make sure that they are complying with state and federal law for all benefits issues. (Not just insurance.) There are fewer specialist EB brokers, because there is a lot more knowledge required to sell the stuff.

I don’t know why people who don’t live in swing states bother with this lesser-of-two evils nonsense. A million more votes for Obama in Illinois or Vermont is not going to change anything in Ohio. And if it gets close in Illinois or Vermont, it’s already completely over for Obama.
If the vote went 60-30-10 instead of 68-32, at least there’d be a shot of opening up some discussion.

The Bible can be used to justify any horror. You just have to find the right passage.

I’ll believe it when I see it and when I’ve read the details of the deal. Obama says a lot of things.

Yep, I give. This Socialist will be supporting Ron Paul.

One other suggestion is that local charities often do silent auctions to raise money. The goods and services are generally donated by local businesses to build awareness, and the purchase is tax deductible.
Museum, zoo, symphony, and theater memberships or tickets also make nice gifts that support your local community. Support live theater!

This is the page for the “shop local challenge”. It’s been very helpful for me and the comments pages are full of good stuff.
Also, consider resale stores and Craigslist for used stuff. As my niece says, “when someone else wears the clothes first, it washes the taint of slavery off.”

Oh, the urban garden in Chicago which has the CSAs and hires the transitional workers is http://www.growinghomeinc.org/ I’m sure they’d be thrilled to advise how to set up one in your hometown.

Another way to buy local (and often organic)is to take advantage of CSAs. Right now it’s planning season for next year for most of them, so there are big discounts for early sign-up. I like how it forces me to try new things and eat enough veggies before they go bad. It’s kinda like gardening. [...]

Also, write a review of your favorite small businesses while you are there. If the owner hasn’t created a Google location yet, this will help make sure it comes up.

I generally either walk around downtown or neighborhood commercial streets (which is easy because I live in the city and have no car). My big resource, which works in most places is http://www.yelp.com. People review everything and the bias is definitely toward local small business (it’s a cultural thing on there that discovering a new [...]

Meanwhile, Rahm pushes for tax breaks for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/section/multimedia?project=Chicago%20Business%20Today&title=Tax%20breaks%20for%20CME%2C%20CBOE%3F
I’m so embarrassed that friends voted for him because he’s “sexy” and swears a lot. Such a a large percentage of our population that wants to sit at the feet of aristocrats and worship them. Makes me think I should just focus on my job in the castle and ignore the serfs if they’re going to be all hero-worshippy anyway.

I know Ari Emanuel raised a ton of money for Rahm Emanuel’s mayoral campaign and now Chicago has Scott Walker South as our Mayor, pushing for tax breaks for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and to bust the unions.

GOP?
Last I saw is that wanting to extend the wars is bipartisan. I don’t see Obama signing any orders to send anyone home.

mekathleen commented on the blog post The Poll Result that Should Scare the Obama Campaign the Most
So I guess that means what all of you want is a Republican president in place so what will get done is further cuts to social programs, more wars, more tax cuts for the rich, less education, no infrastructure, an end to abortion rights, oligarchy, a voucher system for medicare/medicaid/social security and corporations deciding all elections, right?
Funny. I thought you were referring to Obama with that statement.
