Mentatmark wrote a new diary post: RIP Ron Kephart of “Working Class Heroes”
Fellow worker Ron Kephart passed away on Monday. In the arena of Labor historians, Ron was a well known and respected peer. His current project was ” Working Class Heroes ,” a site that told the stories of Labor’s often bloody battles against the many forces of the Bosses. Sadly it is now time to mourn the [...]

Mentatmark commented on the blog post Protest Song of the Day: ‘I Believe in Father Christmas’ by Greg Lake
I have loved this song since I first heard it back in the mid 70s on WDVE in Pittsburgh. Thank you for sharing this great song with everyone. And keep up the good work. If you come back through Erie, PA again, let us at Occupy Erie know so we can greet you properly. I enjoyed our conversation last time.

That book appears to be one of those Adult Literature Classics by Bee-Line Books! And that title has been out of print for years! My DOG! Do you have any clue as to how much one of those books that old with pages not stuck together is worth?????

Triad1, the job issue is one that came up on this same diary that was crossposted at the European Tribune. Orginally the thread was on an open thread, but an editor moved it to this post, there. Here is a link to that conversation:

Bruce, thank you very much. I enjoy taking photos, and telling stories. This puts them both together in one neat package. And it keeps me busy.

Matthew, that is not the case. It would not be economically feasible to do that for almost two centuries if that were true.
Thank you for the hat tip. It was a VERY EXCITING day, and just very exciting for the next two.

I so agree with you about not knocking the miners. It is hard and dangerous work, and for the most part, just about the only kind of work available.

ChePasa, thank you very much. I took over 600 that day, and that makes it a lot easier to put this sort of stuff together. It builds both a definate time line and helps jog the memory. However, that does make it more difficult to get out in a more timely fashion. Depth or first [...]

They were members of the UMWA. I was surprised as hell to find the mine the organizers selected was a Union mine, but MTR is MTR, whether Unionized or not. My understanding of the jail situation is that those still in the Big House had an opportunity to take a plea arrangement that would have [...]

Mentatmark wrote a new diary post: Hobet Mine Shutdown, a Photo Diary
I was invited to photograph the protest and shutdown of the Hobet Mine in Boone and Lincoln Counties in West Virginia last week. The organizers knew me from my participation in the Blair Mountain March last year. This is the biggest mountaintop removal mine in the US, I am told. I was not aware of the [...] -

If you don’t go to left wing blogs, then you don’t get the story that the Man In Charge doesn’t want you to hear. And I am here, in Philly, now. I took vacation from my job to support this event.
