Let’s call it what it is. This is not an issue of overheated rhetoric or “shrillness in general, but a right-wing subculture of demonization and rhetorical violence.
David Neiwert has documented what he calls the pervasive rhetoric of “eliminationism” on the political right, and there is no equivalent subculture on the left.

There is no moral equivalence between the political rhetoric of the left and the right. As David Neiwert has documented, there is a sub-culture of “Eliminationism” on the American right that demonizes, scapegoats, and explicitly or implicitly calls for violence against political opponents.
