Michael Whitney commented on the blog post FDL Book Salon Welcomes Lynn Parramore and Sarah Jaffe, The 99%: How the Occupy Wall Street Movement is Changing America
For me, I miss Zuccotti Park when it was LIberty Plaza. I miss just going down there to talk to people, to see what had changed, what was growing, who would show up. I think there was something deeply special about that reclamation of public space and the way services were provided there.

Good question Lindsay. I’d also like to hear thoughts from Lynn and Sarah on the pseudo-occupation this week in DC, and what SEIU’s evocation of “the 99%” framing in their endorsement of Obama means to you all.

I wouldn’t be so sure. There’s planning going on now for how to prepare for winter. I think it’s entirely possible #OWS will hold the park through the winter.

We don’t censor any ads that come across the site. Once we make a determination about one advertiser, we have to apply a similar filter to others. The best thing is to allow people to advertise as they wish, pulling out only visually jarring or annoying ads.

Wow, thanks so much gesneri. I confess, I’ve also thought about moving to Vermont. I lived there for a summer in 2003 (Howard Dean for President!) and loved every minute of it. I’m in NYC now, and it just seems like such a perfect refuge.
Thanks again for your support. We really appreciate it.

HA! Love it. I believe that’s what’s actually required here. Once Vermont is authorized to go out on its own, it can provide for its residents (not just citizens, btw) and actually provide CARE, as opposed to mandating people PURCHASE shitty health coverage they can’t afford to use.

Yep, that’s the dynamic we’re working within. I stated this in the post, but the second attacks come from the right, “Democrats” cower.
So we’re going out first on Vermont, and making clear that it’s a common sense move for Vermont to act on its own. With the right mix of momentum and brute force, we can reinforce our side and hopefully negate any attacks before they start.
Thanks so much for your support, lechero.

Totally! Vermont for Single Payer worked their butts off for a decade on this bill, and helped us put together our effort to Sebelius. They’re critical allies in this campaign.

I hear you. I think we’re early enough in this campaign that we can really make a difference by getting out in front of Rove, PhRMA, and whomever else is going to try to derail Vermont’s plan.
It’s clear that corporate health companies will do anything they can to stop real reform – there’s no questino in my mind they’ll come after Vermont.

It’s going to be a long haul, but this is a winnable campaign. We just need to be ready for any attacks. Thanks for your support in any way you can provide it.

FDL members are having a discussion like that now. We’re planning our steps for 2012 and want to know what ideas our members want to hear about as we go along in that process. Check out my post from earlier today explaining our last webinar, with the video included.
