Your planet must not feature a whole lot of jazz, then, especially not vocal jazz. Retiring half the pre-war standards would be a rather devastating limitation. As opposed to, say, indie rock, originality of your song material is not considered all that desirable. Originality of INTERPRETATION is what counts. Armstrong, Bobby Darin, and Sonny Rollins each recorded perfectly good versions of “Mack the Knife”.
