You’re an optimist mate. I don’t think we’re gonna get to pick anything.

It is a great storyline with a nice twist. I see it as a kind of David Lynch piece, ala ‘Blue Velvet”. Creepy and probably a tragedy. In the end it’s chances as a comedy are slim, as it’s just not that funny, no matter how jaded or cynical we’ve become. Unless youtake it over [...]

I think the latest figure I’ve seen is that on average executives are making almost 700 times what the average worker makes. Thin you have the 3 billion dollar men, who are making 6000 times the median household income in the US. I’d be happy to see those numbers cut by 2/3. Hell, even 1/4. [...]

Just plug $9/hour into the calculations above where I used $16.50. Easy as… ;)

Thanks Wendy. That video is really one of the best things any of us could be busy watching right now, and Sagan had that almost hypnotic voice which works so well with the images. I’m not writing much these days, but this one just popped out after reading Baker’s blog. Did a little background and [...]

There has been a lot of talk about how the minimum wage has not kept pace with the expanding economy of the United States. Currently at $7.25/hour, the minimum wage would be at $16.50 had it kept pace with the growth of the economy. Dean Baker makes a good explanation of how that has been [...]

The most heroic word in all languages is revolution. – Eugene V. Debs A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is privately concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men who, even if their action be [...]

When our health care costs reach 25% of GDP, and the US consumer economy crashes as a result, even the non-signatory members of the 1% may see the wisdom of universal health care. rec.

I agree, but I think that legislation really benefits the banksters not the homeowners. In many cases, if the homeowners are in that bad a position that they need to raid their IRAs they’d be better off selling the house or defaulting on their loans.

Aye. I’m trying not to get bogged down in the logistics or the “coulda/woulda” right now. If people will just show up day after day to say “not this!” I think we’re moving in the right direction.

The natives are restless. We used to get to come into the castle when the marauders and pillagers arrived at the city’s walls in exchange for our support and defense of the realm. Not any longer. This war is being fought in the realm of ideas and promulgated by the plutocracy through their public relation [...] -
miguelitoh2o commented on the diary post Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) by Billy Glad.
I suppose I may go see it since it is one of the English-speaking movies guaranteed to make it to my town. For me the Planet of the Ape continuing saga peaked when Charlton Heston cursed man as he realized he was witnessing his own species denouement in the first installment.
