The military was the first section of the US to racially desegregate. The country then followed. There is actually far less resistance to equality for gays and lesbians than there was for racial desegregation. So here’s hoping the Defense of Marriage tripe is dropped next.

This is a victory for grass roots activism, but that without the work of Senator Reid (and Lieberman) it still wouldn’t have happened. When a politician actually delivers, as Senator Reid did on his promise to Dan Choi, I say thank you. View it as positive reinforcement.

Obama is a devout Christian who is very uncomfortable with homosexuality and abortion. As a putative Democrat, he says he supports gay rights and reproductive rights and then puts on the brakes so they aren’t protected.
