• Thank you very much, as that is how I see it. This whole economy pampers and coddles the very rich investor class, the reason is beyond me. Why is someone who has extra money more important than someone who doesn’t have much left over and has to really struggle to save any money? Especially now when it seems that due to increased profits being the only goal and main reason for CEOs and corporations to do what they do, that non-empathetic psychopaths, some are also politicians, are at the top of the heap making all the decisions and they care little for how those decisions affect real people, nor do they even consider the consequences.

  • We get screwed from oil companies in a few of ways.
They get us at the pump,
then they speculate on the prices at the pump and the prices rise,
then they foul up our environment,
then they lay off people while claiming the exact opposite that the taxpayer subsidies they get go to raising employment, while the actual number of those employed with them has gone down steadily the whole time they’ve gotten subsidies, for the last ten years
and then, of course, they get taxpayer subsidies while they rake in the profits and have forever been extremely profitable.
Just another day in the United State of the BigOilCorporations.
“Fascism should more appropriately be called corporatism, as it is the merger of the corporation and the state.”_Benito Nussolini

  • If it netted zero, investors would not invest in it. It does not ‘even’ out as you claim. Oil isn’t the only commodity that is hurting folks and raising commodity prices on consumers, there is also food.

  • You’re an obvious Wall street exec, right? It is not speculation per se that is the problem as supply and demand needs the tactic, but what speculation is going on is to shave bucks off the top and give it to people who are just TAKING WHAT IS NOT THEIRS TO TAKE THROUGH THEIR MANIPULATION OF THE PROCESS. Speculation has a place for the ones who make the products and the ones who use the product, but the investors are screwing with the system to benefit themselves. Agricultural speculation is for the benefit of the growers and the ones who create products from what is grown, but investors scoop money off the top and artificially inflate the price and skim it off the top for them only.

  • And then add the effects of the Bluedogs, the New Democratic Coaltion and the DLC and the Democratic brand is completely poisoned and why people say there is no diffeernce in the two parties. Progressives are the only true Democrats that haven’t sold out yet, though the 399-3 vote in the House on HR347 makes me wonder what the hell is going on; along with the Senate voting overwhelmingly on the Senate version of HR347, just tells me we’re screwed, as we have nobody on our side if the Progressives join with the assholes in Congress.

  • Added to what you said is this Obama executive order for permanent war economy: http://progressive.org/permanent_war_economy.html

  • I f**king absof**kinglutely agree with you. This really pisses me off that Obama was just responding to inconvenient protesters political pressure when he delayed the XL decision with his eventual intent to okay the XL pipeline to destruction of the Midwest environment for the US. Much as I hate it and it’ll most likely make be barf when I do it, I think I’ll vote for a Republican in 2012, I’m not sure it could get much worse, for women, maybe, and that really makes me sad that I’d be hurting women voting Repub. Obama is far worse as he pretends to be for you, but he is for himself and his political brethren whether Dem or Repub. We have no real leaders to help us out here, and it’s becoming clearer all the time, with HR347 signed into law 3/8/12, that the only solution is to pull a ‘storm the Bastille’ operation, and a full out French revolution ‘off with their heads’ approach situation.

Now that is funny because they themselves the Rethugnuts are incapable of being shamed. When they voted against the stimulus they were later seen taking credit at ribbon cuttings for what the results of the stimulus was: jobs.

Disgusting coming up, but illustrative at least.
Hmmmm there are not enough liveturds being brought to term, so let’s make McMegan and all of her friends have a colonoscopy before they take a dump, though normally your intestines are cleaned out beforehand, but no more we need to see what is going to come to term, and this procedure is just for her and those whom are like her, and with no anesthesia, right, she has to be awake to see what is coming down the pike, so she will be shamed into normally letting a dead turd into the sewer system.
Makes no sense I know, but neither does she.

Absolutely wonderful. Now how could anyone deny them being together and having the same benefits and opportunties at happiness that heterosexuals have? Keith Olbermann was right, the issue is about love and the denial of some to not have the opportunity to share themselves with another in love and companionship. Religious Right groups and people [...]

So, you and MichelleC, provocateurs extraordinaire, are here to provide unity and solidarity? Oh, wait….I meant inject dissension and to promulgate deviceful comments that divide people who are supposed to be on the same side? Oh, I get it. Instead, tell us why you think Ed is a buffoon, is it because he stands up for the middle class so vociferously? And tell us how Sharpton is unprofessional? RevAl makes some important points why attack the messenger and his delivery? Debate what he says, not what his mannerisms are. But Cenk I will agree did not want to “play their MSM game” by compromising his method of doing the show he wanted to the way he wanted to do it and he should be applauded, and anyone who has followed The Young Turks understands this, which isn’t to say that RevAl has signed on to necessarily do it “their” way, he still goes after the right with the same vigor the same as Cenk did.
Ed was placed in the more Prime time slot for a reason maybe, though I haven’t seen why they changed Lawrence and Ed’s time slots. Sharpton has done a good job of exposing the hypocrisy of the conservatives and you call him unprofessional, what makes him unprofessional? He is way better than any hosts on FOX noise who are like empty suits, or used car salesmen who dress nice but haven’t any depth in their intellectual prowess(as all at FOX are, sadly even Chris Wllace, who had a lot of potential but he is no better than OH’Really?). And importantly, RevAl has the truth on his side without distorting it, unlike FAUX news.

Yes, and it’s truly disheartening to me that that may, in fact, be the case. But it isn’t entirely inevitable. I never in my wildest dreams thought the US would ever accept torture of human beings after having found out what the Nazis did to human subjects during the Hitler reign. Are we as a species destined to go down this path of no lessons learned from previous generations destruction? Vietnam was clearly a trumped up result of lies told to Americans to justify what they wanted to do anyway, the same was done in Iraq, have we learned nothing? I hope you are not saying that black people who were oppressed as slaves are one day going to dish out to others what their ancestors themselves endured, please say that is not going to happen. It is not inevitable for the oppressed to become the oppressor, surely? Could humans have come this far without cooperation and a sense of altruism, but instead by oppressing weaker others? Does being violent and ruthless really have survival value in the long run? I may be wrong, but it does seem folks care more all the time for non-human species welfare, where is the oppression in that? I really believe there is some evidence for human beings desire to correct their historical pillage of the earth’s natural recources, and the assault on third world countries natural wealth. Humans have historicall caused so much destruction and suffering, yet it is humans only that can correct this debacle of mistakes made in the name of profits at all costs. Call me an optimist, but I think as a group humans can and will eventually do better. But it usually takes several generations to get it right. Look at slavery, it lasted for hundreds of years, and the apartheid state of South Africa, who, only just less than 25 years ago reversed that sad state of affairs. I hold out hope for us as a group to care enough for each other to do better for us all. The Boss, Bruce Springsteen, at a concert just before singing “Born to Run,” he said this: “Remember in the end, nobody wins unless everybody wins.” And that I subscribe to wholeheartedly.

It should be required viewing of all of Israel, that of Spielberg’s Days of Remembrance. If they then can keep their same stance against the Palestinians, then they are less than human and no different than the Nazis who oppressed their parents and grandparents. In tears I watched every episode in the series, but I wanted to know about the whole story, and I cannot understand how Israel, after knowing the suffering by some of their own people, can inflict so much of that same similar suffering on the Palestinians in Gaza. Watching the series should bring more compassion to anyone doing the viewing.
ifamericansknew.org and electronicintifada.net is an alternative to the MSM on the conflict.

Knowing what’s going on in Gaza and the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and you throw out that partisan nonsense? Israel is not always right on everything and opposing them does not make one anti Israel, it just makes one is anti nonsense.

  • Yes, she is in the same boat as “economist” Herman Cain and his dumbass 999 nutjob nonsense. onitgoes, nonplussed, and Boxturle have it pretty much right. Especially the part about her writing about things she doesn’t understand. Good journalists frequently write about things they are not expert in, but they usually quantify and qualify their statements with informed facts from the experts in the field they are writing the hournal on, but she just asserts bulls**t and calls it journalism. This is not her first debacle and I seriously wonder why she is still allowed to write at all about anything of any substance. Particularly something as important and topical as SS. WaPo is showing themselves to be FOX on 15th street.

Zeus almighty!!The man, He goes on and on and on and on and on and on ad nauseum. Though I am not a gay man, I have from day one been a supporter of the LGBT movement, so, too, I’m on the side of women’s rights, civil rights, and undocumented immigrants rights. To me there is no other side to these issues, like being either pro-gay, or anti-gay. It is all about equal protection, and it is like deciding on whether the sun rises in the east or not. It does and you can’t take a side on that. So, the question then becomes, are gay folks given the same equal protections as propounded in the Constitution, or not. Where marriage is concerned, no. Where hospital visitation rights are always allowed at every hospital to life-partners, gay or otherwise, though not blood relatives or recognized marriage partners, no. Human beings(and I would add non humans in that also, yes, I’m an animal rights advocate, too)being given equal protections regardless of their stereotypical characterizations is the idea. The closest thing to that guarantee, for humans at least right now is the US Constitution.
Yet there are some folks like the TprtyRepublicans and even mainstream Repubs who want to blur issues into controversies that do not exist. Global warming, well, “the science is not settled on that,” says Rick know-nothing Perry(tell that to the 97%-98% who says yes it most certainly is). And evolution, “well, even most scientists are starting to disclaim evolution” is their claim as Creationists. It truly is absurd.

My two cents here. Closing the account means officially to disallow them from assessing your zero balance and charging you for every two weeks you don’t make a deposit until you make a deposit. Just taking all your money out and leaving a zero balance means they do as I just wrote about above. I [...]
