What is going on reminds me of some of the failed societies Jared Diamond wrote about in his book Collapse. It almost seem like they want to “fail”.
The question is why? Do they actually think there is that much gain for themselves in it?

The reality is that the national political class is losing its credibility left and right in highly visible ways, and the public does not respect the politicians at all anymore.
This is actually just peachy news.
While I agree that the US political class is losing its credibility, you really don’t want to live in a country where that happens. It tends to get very ugly. Think France in the 1780s or Russia in the early 20th century.
