And the killin’ goez on and on and…

    Citizen Masaccio:

As I have said here before “This is exactly like 1968 except there are more of us and less of them and they have more of our money”. Our children and their children are capable of turnin’ this whole thing around but we must get out in front of them in the streets and in the voting booths. Unlike “the greatest generation” who sent the police and National Guard out to bludgeon and kill their own children, we must get out front and make the kids understand that there are too many of us for the old terrorist politics to maintain order and keep manufacturing profits. We have a second chance here but not unless us old folks stop lookin’ for enemies in all the wrong places.

Keep the faith and pass the ammunition there is absolutely nothing to lose!

And the killlin’ goez on and on and…

    Citizen CTuttle:

Aloha Brother CT and congratulations on the Shatz. I must confess, we didn’t get a lot of info on the internecine fight among the Dems there. Did the good guys win and what the fuck ever happened to Abercrummy??!!!

After spending an evening with one of my best friends who is from a community contingent to Ferguson I just hafta say that we are ALL Egyptians now and a shout out to eCAHN that nothing has changed since 1968 except that there are even more of us and less of them and the few of ‘em have even more of our money.

There is no difference except in degree and in the number of folks who find themselves on the hot side of the police line.

    Citizen eCAHNomics:

Like I said, nothing has really changed except there are now more of us than there are of them. The police are just as violent, just as unaccounable and just as lethal – the only thing that has changed is the number of folks on our side of the police line.

    Brother CTuttle:

This looks just like the police riots that started in 1968 and didn’t stop until Nixon was kicked out of the White House and the VietNam War was shut down. Nothing has changed except there are even more of us now than there are of them.

And the killin’ goez on and on and…

    Citizen CTuttle:

Until about 45 minutes ago MSNBC was doin’ a terrific job of cinema verite or allowing the the story to tell itself. Then they had some rookie female takin’ head start a countdown to the curfew, tryin to explain that all this roiting and teargas was the result of “a few bad apples” that had provoked a battalion of peacekeeping police. In the words of the MSNBC anchor “it seems a few protesters are diliberately trying to provoke the police” by standing peacefully in the sidewalk, unwilling to legitimize a curfew in their own neighborhood. My God do they really think that Americans are stupid…or are there that many stupid Americans?

And the killin’ goez on and on and…

    Citizens CTuttle and Phoenix Woman:

First of all I think that the concentration of media ownership is only responsible for stifling of our politics because for too long we have allowed popular culture to dictate our understanding of our personal political experience.

As for what’s happening in Ferguson, it is now clear that the locals and the political ruling class are all-in trying to create a late night video of chaos and violence for the mornin’ news. This is only gunna get worse as each day goes by with the city and county police in charge of the investigation and the policing of the streets after dark. The more desperate they get the more violent they will get in tryin’ to provoke violent responses.

This is crunch time for democracy and the Democratic Party in this country…and so far the professional “liberals” and the political elite have failed miserably.

    Sister Jane:

I was just a bit concerned that the way your post morphed into political criticism could be seen as standing in front of the wedge that Chait threw at us. I believe that we are in a very dangerous place that is made more dangerous by the fact that there is not one dime’s worth of difference between the Tea Party political elite, the establishment Republicans and the institutional powers that control the Democratic Party. The only analogy I can draw is with Weimar Germany 1930-33. We can’t afford to throw babies out with the bath water in engaging phony social arguments.

And the killin’ goez on and on and…

    Citizen Hamsher:

Thank you for the “bullshit” wakeup call. As a husband of a now retired woman professional, father of 2 young professionals who are also women and with four very intelligent and mind-blowingly beautiful grand daughters, I thank you. Indeed, my youngest daughter is working on her phD dissertation on integrating feminist theory and the medical model of health delivery. She is very familiar, and I must say disappointed with the number of professional academic gatekeepers who are always quick with a gentle, condescending paternalistic pat on the head and a warning that feminism is not a cohesive intellectual or academic ideology.

Having said that, I am however a bit concerned that in calling out the paternalistic trolls we not get caught in the tar pit of extending political criticism to isolate women who may be working very hard to correct the course of our rapidly rotting politics. Liz Warren is a politician and therefor by definition will not always advance policies or political actions that satisfy all of us. We must be careful that our criticism of her political stances not be seen, however, as an attack on her righteousness as a feminist. My daughter has warned me about falling into that sticky trap.

I don’t get tangled up in comments here any more but this site is very important to me and to my family, especially your posts, so please consider my concerns as heartfelt.

Keep the faith but pass the ammunition, there are more of mus than there are of them.

Same old same old around here in the land of felonious governors and batshit crazy Republicans. There are wonderful things happenin’ in counties and some small cities here in western WI were grass roots movements are takin over city councils and county boards and kickin’ the shit outta Koch-sponsored astroturf organizations. I’m waitin’ for some of my brother and sister “boomers” to finally get it and start runnin’ cover for the kids who are workin’ their asses off just to stay afloat and have all they can do to stay one step ahead of the fascist bastards.

It’s great to see your kids have children that fulfill your dreams that they have kids as challenging as they were…my deceased mother-in-law had a bumper-sticker that she turned into a sign over her desk: “If I had known how wonderful grandchildren were I would have had them first.”
