nugirl commented on the blog post Will the Family Research Council acknowledge error of using recanted study?
We are not dealing with rational people here. Anyone who expects them to recant is as crazy as they are. Just look at their track record. Lots of people have denounced them for misusing their research and we have yet to them recant even once.

nugirl commented on the blog post At 93, Billy Graham endorses anti-gay amendment, decides to go out with a bigoted bang
Do we know for sure he really authored this? Or maybe it’s the people around him that are using him for their own evil ends. The man is 93 and I have seen a LOT of people mentally deteriorate in their later years and seen others take advantage of that. I think it shows how desperate the opposition is.

nugirl commented on the blog post A Shopping List Of Trans Women’s Shame
Flow In and ProdiGAL I think you’re missing her point. She was smelly making a list of POSSIBLE shame issues trans people MAY deal with. She isn’t saying everyone deals with all that.
That’s the trouble with that kind of post, it tends to get misinterpreted so easy; that’s why I thought PHB was not the best venue for it. This is an post for an online support group of people in transition. And even then the discussion should be closely monitored so people learn from it.

nugirl commented on the blog post A Shopping List Of Trans Women’s Shame
That was depressing! Although it might be accurate that people may have some of these thought during transition, it usually does get better. And many of us are able to put the shame issues behind us. For that reason I wonder if this very long list is appropriate for this site. Unless you explain, as I have, that people can and do.succeed, I worry they may get the wrong impression.
There is life after transion and that life is good.

nugirl commented on the blog post Equal Employment Opportunity Commission rules gender-identity discrimination is covered by Title VII
This EEOC ruling basically extends the Schroer ruling, which was only in a federal District Court, nationwide. That’s HUGE. If true do trans people really need to worry about ENDA anymore?

nugirl commented on the blog post Equal Employment Opportunity Commission rules gender-identity discrimination is covered by Title VII
Funny that article didn’t even mention Schroer vs the Library of Congress which was virtually identical to this recent case. The federal District Court ruled in favor of Diane Schroer stating gender identity was considered part of what is traditionally called “sex” and therefore covered by Title VII:

nugirl commented on the blog post BREAKING: New Hampshire Marriage Equality Repeal Bill Fails
Matt, don’t get your hopes up. The Republicans simply saw that this move was unpopular, was going to be vetoed and that they didn’t have the votes to override. So for appearances sakes only many flipped their votes. I’ve seen this happen before in Concord; if your measure isn’t going to pass your vote against it. Classic example was a couple years ago when we tried to get gender identity added to the state’s non-discrimination laws. It got by the House by a single vote (on a repeat vote) and then went to the senate. When it became apparent the bill wasn’t going to pass ALL our own sponsors voted against it. Our bill didn’t get a single vote officially simply because nobody wanted to go on record as having voted for it.

nugirl commented on the blog post NOM and New Hampshire’s Catholic Bishops Suddenly Support Civil Unions
Forgot to add that that Bate’s bill is more or less political masturbation because the governor is going to veto it and the legislature doesn’t have the votes to override. In addition even IF they could override the veto it would be futile in the end as we know from Prop 8 federal courts take a dim view of taking civil rights away from minorities.
So much for the tea baggers promising to focus on jobs and the economy. Let me tell you they’ve focused on everything except jobs and the economy.
One pissed off NH resident.

nugirl commented on the blog post NOM and New Hampshire’s Catholic Bishops Suddenly Support Civil Unions
The latest twist is Bate’s bill is an amendment calling for a non-binding public referendum on marriage equality in November. New Hampshire doesn’t do referendums, but that isn’t stopping these teabaggers from trying to use a back door referendum to repeal marriage equality.

nugirl commented on the blog post MD Senate passes marriage equality bill 25-22; now on to governor for signing
New York passed marriage equality last year. And it would be law in New Jersey except for that tub of lard governor Chris Christie (he vetoed the marriage equality bill about a week ago).
However, even after the governor of Maryland signs this bill it will likely be challenged. The fight is far from over.

nugirl commented on the blog post Indiana Republican State Representative Bob Morris Against Honoring Girl Scouts
This is a pretty sad statement of life in this country when the Girl Scouts, the Girl Scouts!, become a political target. Yesterday a church in Virgina told them they couldn’t hold meetings in the church facilities anymore. This is insane.

nugirl commented on the blog post New Jersey’s Legislature Passes Marriage Equality Bill
Christie has vetoed it. The man obviously doesn’t care how poorly he will go down in history for this. He’s obviously angling to be the vice-presidential nominee (for what will probably be a losing ticket). Better to put my own ambitions ahead of people’s civil rights.
