So it’s OK for “christian ladies” to show off their bosoms these days?
Or just okay to show off the fake ones?

I’m not traditional, but I serve a traditional T-giving (I’d be castigated if not). No longer stuff the turkey but prepare dressing as a side dish, and no longer make everything (including yeast rolls) from scratch at age 70. Only because it’s a smaller galley-type kitchen. Since being diagnosed w/high blood sugar a mo ago, will probably only be able to eat turkey breast, nothing else, maybe a salad (watching carbs and fat). But love to cook and feed others; a small party of relatives, and will send some leftovers w/them.
As an old protester, I’m thankful this year for the Occupy movement.

olderwiser2 commented on the blog post So, the usual schtick
When Dillingham, AK (birthplace of bully Todd Palin–ironic, no?) with a population of 2400, can get over $200K from DHS, something is amiss. That story is repeated over and over, with a large percentage of what’s being spent not spent on “terrorism” at all. Most PDs, I suspect, have used all that money on equipment (not personnel) to beef up their depts. There’s far more pepper spray, tasers, even armored vehicles, for crowd control these days. The police look like Robocops with all their body armor and weaponry. High tech fascism costs money and it’s there for them.

Totally forgot about her: Jenna Bush Hager, daughter of President George W. Bush, works as a correspondent for NBC’s “Today” show
Maybe because I don’t watch the MSM much.

MSNBC also hired Meghan McCain, while not a Wall St. insider, nevertheless is a child of the privileged elite and untrained in journalism as well.
Meanwhile, there are probably thousands of people with real journalism degrees looking for work. Although to be fair, journalism ain’t what it used to be, by a mile or a few.

Love the idea…instead of participating in Black Friday, give the purveyors of gross consumerism a big F/U and support those who are able to actively participate for those of us 99% who aren’t able.

It’s not the family, it’s the male dominated religion–they don’t give a shit about women and children. Misogynistic assholes.

Glenn, doesn’t American jurisprudence rely heavily on the idea of the Puritan ethic which implies that the hoi polloi are children who must be punished for the smallest infractions while our authoritarian elders escape judgment?

olderwiser2 commented on the blog post Democrats on Super Committee Offer to Cut Medicare Benefits
Ideas about old age are rapidly changing. While popular culture makes us think that you’re going to be parachuting when you’re 70, the fact is that most won’t. Most of the elderly, if they’re not downed by cancer, can develop high blood pressure (which I have also), diabetes, and heart problems, although those are not restricted to the elderly. Face it, our organs are breaking down–we don’t live forever, nor are we supposed to. Why should I demand life-saving, expensive treatments to give me an additional 6 mos of life which I can’t enjoy? Medicine is just another profitable business. In this economy, I don’t see many younger than myself, unless they are in the top 20% of the population (which enjoys the most income) having a very pleasant retirement without their full SS benefits, and even that will be subsistence level.
The average SS payment amounts to about $13K/yr. I get a little less than that and many are forced to live on even less. Only high earners get the maximum, $36K/yr, and they are generally already well fixed with retirement funds, investments, etc., although not always so. Yet those same people enjoy lowered capital gains and other benefits the lesser of us do not.
Only a fundamental restructuring of the economic principals of the US that are in effect right now will save the benefits that are due us. I don’t expect the DINOs on the committee to understand that. People with lots of money seldom do. After all, money is power, and power corrupts. Getting it out of our electoral process as it is now is imperative.

olderwiser2 commented on the blog post Why Establishment Media & the Power Elite Loathe Occupy Wall Street
As a 70 yr old great-grandmother, I say, right on, my young brothers and sisters. If I could get there from NC, I would be there. The best days of my life were demonstrating against the Vietnam War and for other causes when I was a 30 yr old mother of 2. And I wore jeans, not suits. We all did.
I haven’t lost my fervor to change this country and will always support doing the right thing–and the Occupation of Wall St. is definitely the right thing. This is something I wished for during the Bush occupancy, bodies in the streets, en masse, but was told the Internet was enough, that I was old-fashioned.
I felt I was right then, 40 yrs ago, and still do today. My heartfelt thanks to those who are able to be there. You speak for me.

Frankly, I don’t know very many “regular people” who are anything like the unbridled, ambitious Palin. Palin went out of state to several universities, and only once to a community college. The problem with Palin is that she has manufactured an image that she still attempts to sell the public, one so incurious about the [...]
