Abundant data: the West’s riparian ecosystems don’t recover fully, they incise and narrow under grazing (and daming, climate change, urbanization, deforestation…), never to return. History of western streams is to narrow, entrench and reduce floodplain to a fraction of former. Only historians and biologists realize the extensive losses. “They have been winning” by increments for [...]

Sage-brush Rebellion, Wise Use, now this…these dim bulbs serve powerful private interests that want to mountain-top mine, strip and frack every last vestage of the West. Nevermind the valuable natural beauty, ecosystems, recreation (income) or watershed they provide. Those are all externalities to the corporate interests. States-rights politicos are complicit in inciting these acts at [...]

“Brown Shirts” may be more accurate. A weaponized, para-military group of true-believers who can be mobilized in support of the right wing agenda through racism, false-patriotism, and allegience to popular ‘rights’ causes no matter how contrived or false (e.g. convenient idiots). Wonder what ever happened to that Homeland Security report on the violent right-wing? Should [...]

Unfortunately the longer this goes unanswered by ligitimate law enforcement, the more dangerous other public lands in the west become. Copy cat sagebrush “patriots” may continue to push the public land confiscation agenda of the Teaparty and their corporate backers (Koch). Similar land reform movements of the past were crushed by the U.S. government (court [...]

  • So, Obama DOJ is protection Bush Era cronyism at the expense of some poor guy who did right. Makes perfect sense. The slippery slope would mean they wouldn’t defend torture and war crimes. We know that won’t happen.

  • DOI has a full-time “flogger” from D.C. to see that BIA staff hurry to get gov’t review (NEPA) and approval of thousands of gas well leases and the pipelines that aggregate production on tribal lands. The “All of the above” energy policy. Feds. hold tribal mineral rights in most cases.

  • PEER does a great job. Whistle blowers and their advocates face powerful and relentless foes. Surest way to further the War on Whistle blowers is to go after the advocates. Whistle blowing is a career ruining experience and worse, it is impossible to restore confidence is what your government is doing.

Mr. Snowden shows great courage and conviction. along with wisdom. Would that there were more like him… Instead of the fawning, corrupt half-men (and women) who claim to be our leaders.

At the same time of this diversion, Obama also ordered agencies to accellerate oil and gas development on federal and tribal lands. BLM and BIA (Dept. of Interior) have been very busy in the west granting drilling leases. There is a dedicated flogger who weekly harangues agency staff to get things done. On COE use [...]

Having seen many high power rifle wounds, don’t necessarily expect a clean hole as outward appearance. There looks to be a blood clot (usually almost black) and some flesh or other blood clot hanging from near the ear area. All that blood running over face from left ear area came from somewhere. He is still [...]

Dr. described this: –This was a high-powered injury that has resulted in skull-base fracture, with injuries to the middle ear, the skull base, the lateral portion of the C1 vertebrae , – Middle ear and skull base are very near the external ear, thus potential for that to be bone fragment, tissue covered. Bullet hitting bone causes [...]

On the linked photos, note the boat is riddled with bullets. Bullets, especially high power rifle (.223 and .308) used by police would go clear through the boat. 9mm pistol, too would go clear through. Look at the photo “TSARNAEV EMERGES FROM THE BOAT”, zoom in. There is something protruding from his face near the [...]

And the middle class workers who wanted cheap things soon realized that there was pollution from the factories. They passed laws that required clean air, water, safer work places. They were willing to accept the slight cost associated, for the air was cleaner, water had live fish. It was worth it.

Whole new industries were created, government and contractors to provide the services for regulations. Those people too wanted washers, driers, cars…
Corps realized they could keep prices the same and go dirty up other people’s air and water. That lasts until other people want their air and water clean. Corps invent “job-killing regulation” to defeat and gut the people-life-saving regulations. Because few place a number value on clean air, water, safety; Corps claim dollars lost for commons sake. Congress bought and paid for, and extremely ignorant, agree and begin to roll back regulations, defund agencies.

Poor masses now not only don’t have decent jobs to look forward to, but an increasingly polluted, blighted environment.

Here is a quote that also points to complete lack of preparedness by Shell and contractors:

On Wednesday (Jan. 2), Shell’s tow vessel Nanuk was dispatched northwest to Seward, Alaska, to collect spill-response equipment. “We’re working on two priorities,” Coast Guard Cmdr. Shane Montoya said in a news conference earlier this week, soon after industry, Coast Guard, [...]
