Palli commented on the diary post Republicans planning to change Electoral College rules to rig future elections. by Broke and Unemployed.
In Ohio, some republicans want to actually make the electoral vote relate directly to the majority votes in each Congressional District now that they have gerrymandered the state so well. In other words, although the total statewide popular vote might go for the Democrat (as it did this year) gerrymandered districts that favor them would [...]

Palli commented on the diary post Gun Enthusiasts To “Send Obama Message” With Gun Appreciation Day Two Days Before Inauguration by Dennis Trainor Jr.
I bet the list of names will include unvalidated names of members of organizations, shooting ranges, gun clubs, etc., just like nomination papers from some politicians we know.
Too bad every person cannot be directly contacted to verify their participation and embarrassed into a dialogue about public safety and social responsibility.

Why not a cut-off at $80,000? Four fifths of all American families (240,606,572 American families) live on an annual income less than $80,000.
Here’s what I want to know:
How can the [middleclass] tax cuts extend to families with an annual income of $450,000 when the top 5% of American family incomes actually begins with families with annual incomes of $311,444?180,454,920 (three fifths of all families) of these have annual incomes below $50,000. And 6,015,164 of these families are trying to survive on less $11,000. That’s more than one half of all Americans families!
Again, four fifths of all American families live on an annual income less than $80,000.
That’s 240,606,572 American families. Isn’t that a supermajority? One last absurdity: the top 5% of American family incomes actually begins with families with annual incomes of $311,444! Well below the $450,000 mark in the bill.

Palli commented on the blog post Tea Party Civil War Puts Dick Armey In Spotlight
If FreedomWorks has money for the size of that golden parachute- Imagine if they had financed bail-outs for their members whose mortgages underwater and being pulled! Would that have spawned lifelong loyalty for real action, instead of the idiotic fealty spawned by insincere rhetoric? When ill the peons of the right recognize their “leaders” as insatiable con men & women?

Well, then take redistricting out of the hands of the parties. The redistricting should be determined by objective comprehension of census statistics, cartography & sociology of communities. We tried in Ohio to create a commission with citizens represented but because the text of the ballot Issue was written by the party in power and the other party made little attempt to educate the electorate, it failed.
Another problem- why are only 2 parties represented on Boards of Elections?

Business doesn’t run like the business: it runs like top down/hands off corporatism supporting shareholders who do none of the business work.
Yet even running government that way supposedly means the stockholders benefit. Aren’t the American citizen’s the stockholders. The middleclass and those below are the majority of American citizens. That should mean that social services-which only the middleclass and those below need should be getting the majority of the benefits. Governments funding should go to their direct benefit, SS, Medicare, national healthcare, housing subsidies, etc.

Thank you, David.
Reading some of my thoughts between your lines, I remembered this quote and the meanings it has.
“There are only two kinds of politics, the politics of fear, and the politics of trust.”*
*It is from the Ed Muskie for President 1972 Campaign Brochure entitled ‘A New Beginning for America’
Here are the paragraph headings. Change a name of a war, raise the percentage of the unemployed, count the gun deaths, add a few names like Koch and you could publish the same 40 year old document as new.The New Beginning means an end to the war in Vietnam, right away.
The New Beginning means Open Government.
The New Beginning means refusing to accept 6% unemployment.
The New Beginning means no more campaign financing by Special Interests. The full text of the campaign brochure: http://www.4president.org/brochures/1972/muskie1972brochure.htm
