pataphysician commented on the blog post The Mittens plan for people with pre-existing conditions and no health insurance – just die.
Before the current Health care act, if you had group insurance from your employer and during that time developed a per-existing condition, then later lost your job, and your new job didn’t offer group health, you would be forced to try to buy private insurance, which could(and would) turn you down, or rescind you later(which is much much worse). Then your only option would be to try to get on your states emergency insurance, which historically have had very long wait lists.
So it actually was very difficult for anyone with a per-existing condition to remain insured, even if they absolutely wanted to.
Is Mitts plan going to only start requiring continuous coverage, after is starts, or will it mean that all those who didn’t have continuous coverage before Romneys plan also be excluded for per-existing conditions?

pataphysician commented on the blog post Trayvon Martin Case: Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee Takes “Leave of Absence”
Actually his Father is Richard Zimmerman, and he just stated that his son was of “a Spanish speaking minority”, so pretty vague about identification. It seems George has one Grandmother who came from Peru, which still doesn’t tell us if she was white or non-white.

pataphysician commented on the blog post Criticism in Trayvon Martin Case Focuses on Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee
I don’t think so, I believe the police have it, there was one statement I read that they haven’t unlocked the phone yet(this was on March 20) and were waiting for on a subpoena for his phone records, which implied they have it, but this was an unnamed source “close to the investigation” not and official statement.

pataphysician commented on the blog post Criticism in Trayvon Martin Case Focuses on Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee
I haven’t found anything that authoritatively says what the police gathered from the scene or if they had a phone or a wallet. We know now he was talking on his cell phone, so police should have gathered the phone if they were at all competent, there seems to be some unclear references to them having the phone.
They identified Trayvon Martin, because his father reported him missing and gave a description, it was only days latter they showed up at his house to see if the he could identify the picture of the body from the scene.

pataphysician commented on the blog post Criticism in Trayvon Martin Case Focuses on Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee
His Parents weren’t notified till three days after the shooting, so it’s possible that he sat in the morgue unidentified for longer than many hours, even though they should have had his phone.

pataphysician commented on the blog post Indiana Republican State Representative Bob Morris Against Honoring Girl Scouts
He was actually selected by the Republican party(41 committee persons) in his District to replace the Republican who had served 10 years, but was leaving before his term was up. This meant their was no Republican primary he had to go through. Since the district is very heavily Republican, his selection was all that was needed to get him into office, and he only served a couple months before the general election, so not enough time to see the crazy.
In a primary, most Democratic Party people would probably vote in the Republican primary in this area, as even on the US congressional level it is heavily Republican. It’s unlikely he would have won and actual primary.

pataphysician commented on the blog post WikiLeaks Reports It Has Been ‘Banned’ From UN Agency’s Conference on WikiLeaks
Irena Bokova is the current head of UNESCO, there is an interesting wikileaks document about her from the US diplo cables, this one is from 2010.
https://www.wikileaks-forum.com/index.php?topic=5710.0“Ayalon said that Israel was working hard to overcome its diplomatic isolation. He flagged Israel’s having recently joined JUSCANZ [a consultative body to the UN Human Rights Council] in Geneva and its hope to join JUSCANZ and WEAG in New York so that it could present candidates for UN positions. Israel wanted to submit a candidate to be Assistant Delegate General for International Cooperation and Communication at UNESCO, and asked for U.S. intervention with new UNESCO Director General Bokova, who “owes you guys her life.”
Though Israel didn’t get it’s way, It’s actually unclear if the US actually put in a word for Ayalon. The rest of the forum post speculates on how she owes the US her life, but doesn’t seem to convincing to me. I would say something like owing her life, means something more than being one of many countries who opposed the initial front runner, which was how she won her position.

pataphysician commented on the blog post Chicago City Council Passes Rahm Emanuel’s Anti-Protest Ordinances
Doesn’t the aldermens statements, mean that some of these ordinances can’t really be used successfully in court? Since the aldermen are saying the Police won’t actually enforce many of the provisions, means that if they are ever used, the party they are used against will have one of the clearest cases of equal protection. Since the aldermen are publicly stating the police won’t generally enforce these ordinances, any enforcement will be specially targeted and therefore violate equal protection.

pataphysician commented on the diary post Why Is Mainstream Press Blindly Attacking a Montana Blogger? by RogerShuler.
Your post is wildly inaccurate, the Oregon Shield laws about having to divulge sources do not apply with respect to the content or source of allegedly defamatory information, in civil action for defamation wherein the defendant asserts a defense based on the content or source of such information. So it’s irrelevant if she qualifies as [...]

pataphysician commented on the blog post Indiana Republicans Approve Fines for Boycotting Democratic Legislators
The fines don’t have to be paid, Bauer is saying, as it is against the law to be taken out of paychecks, the house would have to go to court to actually get the Democrats to pay, where it is likely to fail anyway.

pataphysician commented on the diary post Can someone remove Andrew Sullivan’s head from his ass? by Bin Quick.
Gah, Newsweek is the People magazine of “News”, it is only read by brain dead zombies, so it it totally appropriate that Andrew Sullivan writes for them, especially in an article to call people stupid.

pataphysician commented on the blog post A President Alone Can End the Federal Drug War
Also the Controlled Substance Act has an initial list of scheduling, So if Ron Paul got rid of the DEA and FDA (unconstitutional without Congressional support), then the law would initially revert to this listing. If Ron Paul doesn’t get rid of these departments, he then has to appoint a head of the DEA and FDA that gets approved by the Senate, who aren’t going to approve anybody who would unschedule anything.

pataphysician commented on the blog post A President Alone Can End the Federal Drug War
Some drugs are specifically Scheduled by Congress, and if Ron Paul makes a changes to scheduling I’m pretty sure the current Congress would enact legislation to make scheduling to be completely enumerated by Congress.

pataphysician commented on the blog post Investigative Officer Refuses to Compel Two Key Witnesses to Testify at Manning Hearing
While pleading the fifth is certainly these peoples right, Manning has a right to Due Process as well, which involves the judge granting immunity to defense witnesses who make such pleas, if they are important to the defenses case. It’s hard to see how the testimony of these two individuals is not important to the defenses case.

Doesn’t the Home Survey have a +- 400,000 confidence? so the number of unemployed dropped by 594,000 +- 400,000 The Establishment survey has a +- 100,000 confidence, so the number of new jobs was 120,000 +- 100,000 When you look at them together, I would say the best case scenario is unemployed dropped by about [...]

I’m upset, no one told me that everyone born in the late 60′s to early 70′s got trust funds, I feel ripped off. I also didn’t realize that Reagan, Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, Obama were all born in the late 60s and early 70s, and just wearing clever disguises to make them look older, [...]

pataphysician commented on the blog post Early Morning Swim
Dear Mayor Bloomberg, maybe you should read the First Amendment as it includes much more than free speech, like freedom of assembly to petition the government for grievances. I say we just call him Mayor Mubarak.
At least now the world knows the US is but a fake democracy, with fake freedom. It’s all plastic, made beautiful for you to look at and shiny, as long as you never try to use it.
