• It’s not on the nightly TV News because if the News covered every new piece of legislation, it would take forever and a day. This bill is just a resubmission of a bill Bernie did in the 112th Congress in 2011, that bill died in committee, which might very well happen to this one.
    http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/s1558

Usually News agencies that don’t want to overwhelm their readers with legislation that won’t go anywhere and is often put out for purely political reasons(as in for reelection propaganda), will generally only cover legislation that at least actually makes it out of committee. If they didn’t follow this simple rule and were non partisan in their presentation, the nightly news would be quite long, over 11,000 bill are introduce on average in a yearly congressional session.

  • Earlier in the day, before the N Korean statement. The outgoing South Korean President said this,

“In a farewell speech to the nation six days before leaving office, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak on Tuesday warned Pyongyang its missiles and weapons are taking the North “closer and closer to a dead-end.”

Lee alerted his compatriots to hastily prepare for reunification of the Korean peninsula. The president asserted that “even though the North Korean regime is refusing to change, its citizens are quickly changing and nobody can block that.”

My guess is Voice of America might have been generous in it’s translation, and dead-end might have been closer to destruction.

I am not sure how or why you go from sole stockholder of a corporation in 1999 to a retired partner in 2002? Then again, a wiki article is not necessarily a legally correct and precise essay.

Bain Capitol has a Holding company that all the partners companies are under, Mitt was only sole share holder [...]

  • Rebellious child is a Biblical dog whistle, that the man would be justified in killing his wife.

    Deuteronomy 21: 18-23

If any man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or his mother, and when they chastise him, he will not even listen to them, 19 then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his hometown. 20 They shall say to the elders of his city, `This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21 Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel will hear of it and fear. 22 If a man has committed a sin worthy of death and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, 23 his corpse shall not hang all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him on the same day (for he who is hanged is accursed of God), so that you do not defile your land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance.

  • The biggest part of Barclay’s fine for libor fixing comes from the US government, so I’m not sure what your talking about.

    So far Barclay is fined
200 million by US govt. CFTC
160 million by US govt. DOJ
93 million by Brititsh Financial Services Authority

The UK wasn’t even going to look into criminal, until public outrage boiled over, so I’m not sure following the Brits would be ideal.

  • King is pretty much a male Susan Collins/Olympia Snowe, originally a conservative Democrat, ran as an independent for governor. He is a very close friend of Republican William Cohen, who Susan Collins worked for before running for Senate, Olympia Snowe also worked for Cohen.

  • Before the current Health care act, if you had group insurance from your employer and during that time developed a per-existing condition, then later lost your job, and your new job didn’t offer group health, you would be forced to try to buy private insurance, which could(and would) turn you down, or rescind you later(which is much much worse). Then your only option would be to try to get on your states emergency insurance, which historically have had very long wait lists.

So it actually was very difficult for anyone with a per-existing condition to remain insured, even if they absolutely wanted to.

Is Mitts plan going to only start requiring continuous coverage, after is starts, or will it mean that all those who didn’t have continuous coverage before Romneys plan also be excluded for per-existing conditions?

  • Actually his Father is Richard Zimmerman, and he just stated that his son was of “a Spanish speaking minority”, so pretty vague about identification. It seems George has one Grandmother who came from Peru, which still doesn’t tell us if she was white or non-white.

  • I don’t think so, I believe the police have it, there was one statement I read that they haven’t unlocked the phone yet(this was on March 20) and were waiting for on a subpoena for his phone records, which implied they have it, but this was an unnamed source “close to the investigation” not and official statement.

  • I haven’t found anything that authoritatively says what the police gathered from the scene or if they had a phone or a wallet. We know now he was talking on his cell phone, so police should have gathered the phone if they were at all competent, there seems to be some unclear references to them having the phone.

They identified Trayvon Martin, because his father reported him missing and gave a description, it was only days latter they showed up at his house to see if the he could identify the picture of the body from the scene.

  • His Parents weren’t notified till three days after the shooting, so it’s possible that he sat in the morgue unidentified for longer than many hours, even though they should have had his phone.

  • He was actually selected by the Republican party(41 committee persons) in his District to replace the Republican who had served 10 years, but was leaving before his term was up. This meant their was no Republican primary he had to go through. Since the district is very heavily Republican, his selection was all that was needed to get him into office, and he only served a couple months before the general election, so not enough time to see the crazy.

In a primary, most Democratic Party people would probably vote in the Republican primary in this area, as even on the US congressional level it is heavily Republican. It’s unlikely he would have won and actual primary.

  • Irena Bokova is the current head of UNESCO, there is an interesting wikileaks document about her from the US diplo cables, this one is from 2010.
    https://www.wikileaks-forum.com/index.php?topic=5710.0

“Ayalon said that Israel was working hard to overcome its diplomatic isolation. He flagged Israel’s having recently joined JUSCANZ [a consultative body to the UN Human Rights Council] in Geneva and its hope to join JUSCANZ and WEAG in New York so that it could present candidates for UN positions. Israel wanted to submit a candidate to be Assistant Delegate General for International Cooperation and Communication at UNESCO, and asked for U.S. intervention with new UNESCO Director General Bokova, who “owes you guys her life.”

Though Israel didn’t get it’s way, It’s actually unclear if the US actually put in a word for Ayalon. The rest of the forum post speculates on how she owes the US her life, but doesn’t seem to convincing to me. I would say something like owing her life, means something more than being one of many countries who opposed the initial front runner, which was how she won her position.

  • Doesn’t the aldermens statements, mean that some of these ordinances can’t really be used successfully in court? Since the aldermen are saying the Police won’t actually enforce many of the provisions, means that if they are ever used, the party they are used against will have one of the clearest cases of equal protection. Since the aldermen are publicly stating the police won’t generally enforce these ordinances, any enforcement will be specially targeted and therefore violate equal protection.

Also the Controlled Substance Act has an initial list of scheduling, So if Ron Paul got rid of the DEA and FDA (unconstitutional without Congressional support), then the law would initially revert to this listing. If Ron Paul doesn’t get rid of these departments, he then has to appoint a head of the DEA and FDA that gets approved by the Senate, who aren’t going to approve anybody who would unschedule anything.

Some drugs are specifically Scheduled by Congress, and if Ron Paul makes a changes to scheduling I’m pretty sure the current Congress would enact legislation to make scheduling to be completely enumerated by Congress.
