ROOM 237 played Cannes and Sundance and everything inbetween…it’s been a sensation. Alec Baldwin called it “Bee…fucking…zarre” after he saw it in Cannes.

I think we can say now? Can we Todd? Cher tweets about it.

What else should we plug before we go? We are Exec Producers on a great new doc called ROOM 237. About people obsessed with THE SHINING. http://www.room237movie.com – it’s in theaters starting March 26.

It was fun to make in general. A real family affair, all the way to having Roddy Bottum of Faith No More do the score (Patty and Roddy are best buddies). The hardest thing for us, I think, was not ever having an editor. So I had to go back to my roots and re-teach myself how to edit. I was an editor for several years in NYC after film school for money but when I’m directing, I like to have a filter in between me and the material. And in this case, Patty and I were friends as well…so keeping an even perspective can get hard. Eventually, I “fired” myself as the director and took over as the editor.

Cher’s been amazing to us. We’re very excited about the movie. It’s in the last parts of post right now…the best moment in the movie is the Half Breed stuff. About Cher’s heritage.

Patty’s latest band is The Cold And Lovely…with Nicole Fiorentino from Smashing Pumpkins and Meg Tooey. They’ve got a great CD.

It’s a hard part of doing a doc…sometimes great stories get in the way of the flow of what you are trying to bring through. And you can’t tell every part of someone’s story…the first cut was four hours long! Haha. We never even made Patty sit through that cut.

He passed away several years before we started filming HIT SO HARD. Actually, taking care of him was part of what helped Patty get sober too. It was a complicated tangent we decided to leave out.

Those shortbread cookies! When the interview started, Courtney told room service to bring up her regular milk and cookies but to bring extra because she had guests – and neither Todd nor I ever got a bite. It was fashion week in NYC so I think that was her one indulgence while she was hopping around in haute couture.

That interview of Courtney…you could literally put credits on the front, credits on the end and release it as a movie. She is a wild, unpredictable genius IMHO.

Patty played with Phranc back in the mid 90′s so…not totally sober no…she was in and out of rehab many times until this last time that has really stuck. Patty’s been truly sober now…what? I think 7 or 8 years. Phranc and I go waaaaay back. She tells this story whenever people meet us together so it’s okay to say that my mom was Phranc’s shrink in the 70′s. I was in junior high school and thought she was the coolest thing to walk the earth.

And you know in England a woman’s fanny is the front side, not the butt. So it’s even racier there!

Guess who is learning to play drums now? Patty and Christina’s 2 year old daughter Beatrice! (she’s the baby at the end of HIT SO HARD).

Can you imagine Patty pounding the drums behind Anabella? Talk about grrrrrl power.

Well, she really started with drinking. And as she describes it, she started doing different drugs to balance out the other drugs. Her brother Larry talks about how you start slow and then you realize you’re hooked. I think the crack addiction happened when she went homeless. It was cheap and available on the street.
