Hm…I wonder if that has anything to do with the Beach Boys songs.

I have not…but agreed that this is a fascinating concept. Some people do have such a need to debunk conspiracy theories. Todd and I love the movie LOOSE CHANGE about conspiracy theories behind the destruction of the world trade towers.

Todd and I just finished a documentary about Cher and her mom, called DEAR MOM, LOVE CHER.

Once again, something I love about ROOM 237 is that it does nothing to try and finalize the conversation about the true “MEANING” of Kubrick’s work. Those are always the hilarious reviews — the ones that get their panties in a bunch about whether or not R237 really answers any questions…when to me…the movie is about raising questions and allowing them…and making maybe even less sense in the end so that we can all think there might be more to Kubrick’s work than we thought when we started trying to figure it out. Oh boy. That’s convoluted. Ha. Try making sense out of that.

I would love to be sitting at one of those conventions in 30 years, signing posters from ROOM 237 for $5 a pop.

There was a whole Minatuar comment at the end of the PHIL SPECTOR bipic on HBO. I wonder if they saw ROOM 237…

Another thing Todd and I laugh about: all these former Kubrick staffers love to come forward and say, “Hogwash! We didn’t intend anything. It’s all just a big sloppy mess.” And we’re thinking…wait…isn’t it EVERY filmmaker’s dream that 30 years after you make a movie, the audience is watching it frame for frame, believing every choice you made was not only intentional but rich with hidden meaning? What makes someone NEED to debunk the theorists in ROOM 237 versus listen and be intrigued by their way of looking at it. That’s a whole ‘nother movie.

Well, my own personal opinion about it all (and this may be different than Tim and/or Rodney’s)…but what I love about ROOM 237 is that it makes no difference whether or not you “believe” the theories. The doc is about obsession, not veracity. That said, there are moments when someone posits something and you have to think, whether or not Kubrick intended it to be so, you can read the movie according to the prism one person chooses to be seeing it through. And that starts the whole conversation about filmmaker intention versus affect on an audience — and to me, that’s why ROOM 237 is great. (I’m the Exec Producer, not the director, so I’m allowed to say I think our movie is great, BTW. Haha.)

My favorite moment in ROOM 237 might be when it is revealed that the carpet pattern is the same as the Apollo launch pad. That’s when you scratch your head and say…hmmm…

Everyone always asks Tim and Rodney what movie they are going to “do” next…like it’s going to be a series. Todd and I are always riffing on what would be a good one to do…like “CAN’T STOP THE MUSIC.” But I should be careful what I wish for because I could see Rodney getting all caught up in that one.

The structure of the two films is somewhat similar in the way that they spend so much time setting up the characters dynamics before any horror begins.
