Reminder: there is no right to own guns, and there never was. The pro-gun people are deliberately misreading the Second Amendment so as to boost gun sales.
In the 18th century, “to keep and bear arms” meant “to serve in the military.” It was standard legal usage and had nothing to do with anyone owning anything.
When you put it in perspective, it was always daft to think the Founding Fathers inserted a plug for guns into the Bill of Rights.

Austerity is much like the outmoded medical practice of bleeding: just keep re-applying till the patient dies.

Meanwhile, Obama mulls his decision over. What will our right-leaning, super-secretive, whistleblower-whacking, drone-loving, capitulating, death-dealing, corporate-friendly, authoritarian President decide?

There you go. “Second amendment rights” means the power to shoot anyone who displeases you. It’s a gun guy’s fantasy.

Obviously, some gun guy (or guys) did it.
This Newtown thing has driven them to a homicidal fury. They express their hatred for their fellow Americans on an hourly basis, complete with threats, both veiled and otherwise.
I’m sure the marathon seemed like a gathering of “evil libs” to them.
Look for a male white hoplomaniac, aged 20-45, of a rightward political persuasion. Recommend we start arresting gun owners en masse, with special emphasis on the 9/11 Truthers.

“Democrats, including Obama, are bought and paid for, as much as Republicans.”
If that were true, Clinton wouldn’t have raised taxes on the rich, downsized the military, passed meaningful gun control, taken meaningful steps to preserve the environment, and begun paying off the deficit. Unless he forgot he was bought and sold.

Each drone is like a mechanized death squad. I’m sure each strike creates far more terrorists than it kills.

Austerity never hits the wealthy, Attaturk. Austerity is a tool by which to keep them wealthy, just as the bailouts were.

The poor devils. They have all the money, all the think tanks, a media empire devoted to their cause, an electoral system which is tilted way the Hell their way, limitless corporate donations and depthless coffers, voter caging, voter intimidation, voter deception, and black-box voting machines which give them the edge every time–and they STILL can’t win.

perrylogan commented on the blog post Late Night: Who Are These Guys?
Two things remain constant with all musings about Obama: people wonder why he says what he says, and people wonder if he means it. This has been the case at least since 2008, when Obama appointed all those neocons to his cabinet.
My theory–that Barack Obama is a neocon posing as a centrist Democrat–continues to explain the President’s behavior better than any other hypothesis.
Obama has to continually maintain the facade of being a Democrat–which involves saying things Democrats might like to hear–then do essentially neocon things. That’s the short version of Obama’s first term.
Much of the President’s alleged “3-dimensional chess” maneuvering is actually simple duplicity–an effort to maintain plausible deniability. That’s why he creates weird, bipartisan commissions, specifically designed to take our stuff away, in the manner of neocons. That’s why he proposes laws that can never pass. That’s why he blames Congress for everything. That’s why he is obsessed with secrecy and persecutes whistleblowers. It’s also why Obama supporters act, think, and talk like neocons.

perrylogan commented on the blog post This could only be a “job” for Judicial Activism
Attaturk, this Court has no problem whatsoever overturning years–nay, decades–of legal precedent and case law (to say nothing of sanity itself) if it suits their purpose. Citizens United is a prime example.
I find it hard not to consider this bunch to be a rogue Supreme Court, in the same way that Bush-Cheney were essentially a rogue Administration–and for the same reason: they are partisan to the point of treason. In a better world, we would impeach the whole bunch and undo all their cases. If they mess with gay marriage, we really must impeach them.
