• the job creators are really consumers.
business doesnt create jobs unless there is demand — read cash — to spend on the product or service.
how many cars can a billionaire buy and drive? how many pairs of pants?

you need tens of millions with cash to spend to drive an economy.

profits are at a 40-year high and unemployment is at a 40-year high.
if all it took were profits in the hands of the 1%, we would be awash in jobs, but we are not.

That’s because the real job creators dont have money to spend on goods.
the business people who run companies hoard their money when there is no reason to hire to increase production.

  • Ezekiel Emanuel or vice versa, is an oncologist, he should know better, or he is just another entitlement cassandra.

how to spot an entitlement gouger: anyone who lumps Medicare and Social Security together, and says they have problems.

as many have pointed out, the issues are entirely different and the degree of difficulty are as separate as a triple-pike reverse and a cannonball.

oh yea, and, his entire article, after lumping the two together, is really all about Social Security.
He ignored the Medicare issue completely; that is to say, he never discusses the high cost of care in US vs. Other First-Worlders, and he never discusses something he knows first-hand — the high-cost of dying and last years of life, as well as the medical establishment’s headlong rush for expensive care as opposed to effective care.

  • Jon, please define all-payer system.

is that when individual insurers can negotiate prices with hospitals and docs, but the docs and hospitals have to charge all the same?

    how does that work?

Come on, this was one of his best columns EVER. He came out for more government regulation in his last sentence. That is how I read this ending: Once people lost a sense of their own weakness, the self-doubt went away and the chastening structures were overwhelmed. It became madness to restrain your own desires [...]

  • i wish this didnt sound so plausible.
but i had a chat yesterday with a guy who owned the EV1 before it was taken from him.
    ditto the Ford Ranger EV.
he managed to get one of those back in a lottery after the uproar.

those shieks and texas oil men are the same guys, just with different hats.

  • I have solar for four years and with high-priced panels, as a result, so take this for what it is worth.
The cheaper the panels to make, the more folks may respond to the idea.
regardless, the payback situation is fine, either way. Of course, it is better to get payback in 5 years instead of 10.
but that is often not the point.

I regret, however, that in every article I read there is no indication of the actual pricing structure of China vs. other panels.

    prolly not.
    prolly just chatter.

    you know, if you start the tale off with Mitt’s tormen of the nearly blind teacher;
One venerable English teacher, Carl G. Wonnberger, nicknamed “the Bat” for his diminished eyesight, was known to walk into the trophy case and apologize, step into wastepaper baskets and stare blindly as students slipped out the back of the room to smoke by the open windows. Once, several students remembered the time pranksters propped up the back axle of Wonnberger’s Volkswagen Beetle with two-by-fours and watched, laughing from the windows, as the unwitting teacher slammed the gas pedal with his wheels spinning in the air.

As an underclassman, Romney accompanied Wonnberger and Pierce Getsinger, another student, from the second floor of the main academic building to the library to retrieve a book the two boys needed. According to Getsinger, Romney opened a first set of doors for Wonnberger, but then at the next set, with other students around, he swept his hand forward, bidding the teacher into a closed door. Wonnberger walked right into it and Getsinger said Romney giggled hysterically as the teacher shrugged it off as another of life’s indignities.

You get a fairly clear view of a sadistic and cruel personality. the kind of boy who would pull wings off a fly. or the kind of man who would prefer to starve the poor and lower taxes on the rich.

you dont even need to get to the torture of the gay boy.

That “self insurance” loophole is a huge exemption. Look for any Roman Catholic institutions that aren’t self-insured already to set themselves up that way in short order. we will find out who is driving the bus from that. many catholic-affiliated institutions are just not set up to handle that risk or move to that model. think [...]

there are 4 million registered and 2 million are independents.

  • i encourage the goopers to push this and the end of medicare.
the contraceptive thing is very toxic for them. women vote at a higher rate than men do, too.
can anyone in the gooper party say terry schiavo?
that was a smaller mistake than this “issue.”
watching the overheated and skewed rhetoric on this out of the foxheads makes me wonder at whether they are running for office or think they rule by divine right.

  • the local catholic-affiliated university in LA provides contraceptive prescription and other contraception services to employees.
    just sayin’
mostly, what is going on is that the catholic-affiliated universities are fine with this. their employees like it allot, especially as the staff is gender balanced or tilted to the female side, except for maintenance employees.
those not so cool with it are the old guy trustees and alumns.
    also the bishop.
you wont see anyone at the u talk about this cause they dont want the bishop calling them up about it. and HE will.
the bishop, of course, is always a guy, as were ALL 20 of the ministers talking about this on Hannity last nite. (apologies for the profanity)
