pointus commented on the blog post Obama Just Raised Taxes On The Middle Class
I was relieved to learn that the FICA tax cut has been eliminated… there was some real concern among the folks at Social Security Works (& others like it) that it could easily become permanent (ala the Bush tax cuts), and really threaten the viability of Social Security. Also, as cwaltz points out in the comment above mine, the FICA cut did some serious damage to the wall of separation between the SS trust fund and the deficit.
That being said, Obomber & the Democrats’ needless capitulation on capital gains & the estate tax is depressing as hell; and I’d be very surprised if this whole goddamn “fiscal cliff” farce wasn’t mainly constructed in order to soften us all up for the chained CPI SS benefit cut and a higher Medicare eligibility age, when the GOP threatens once again to default on US sovereign debt.

pointus commented on the blog post The Best Way to Solve the “Fiscal Cliff” Has Always Been to Just Eliminate It
Speaking of the media, Rachel Maddow’s favorite fill-in, Ezra Klein, always gets these anti-Social Security DLC types as guests on the show, to further push his own centrist agenda. A few weeks back it was Peter CitiGroup Orszag, tonight it was Brookings Institute hack Alice Rivlin… both of whom are on record as supporting cuts to Social Security. Depressing… aside from Bill Moyers once or twice a month, there’s nobody on national television espousing sane economic policy.

pointus commented on the blog post Walker Spins His Failed Job Record in Recall Ad
Unfortunately, many people are susceptible to bullshit political ads suck as Walker’s, while the Kochs and their ilk are dumping millions into the anti-recall campaign. I just gave $50 (which I can’t afford) to United Wisconsin, in the hopes that they can somehow counter the big money blitz from Scotty’s corporate pals… (it is beyond infuriating that Maurice Greenberg, former CEO of AIG– which was bailed out by MY tax dollars in 2008– has been fundraising for Walker).
Will the citizens of Wisconsin be able to see through the barrage of lying ads which will be filling the airwaves leading up to the recall election?
I can’t think of a better example of big money vs. the public interest. -

One interesting thing I noticed: the closer Schneiderman got to his capitulation, the more media appearances he made.

Maybe the Republicans will take the white house in 2012, which would really suck. But at least Obama would lose. The man has ZERO principles. ZERO integrity.

you ‘progressives’ are ridiculous, we dont live on mars, you cant just snap your finger and get what you want .. not with nut jobs like the Tea Partiers around, u have to outsmart them, not out yell them…
Yeah, he sure outsmarted them when he extended the Bush tax cuts, and when he capitulated on cuts to the poor & elderly (not to mention stabbing DC voters in the back)…

pointus commented on the blog post Obama Deficit Speech Tomorrow Will Offer New Baseline for Negotiations
We will have to rely exclusively on Wall Street money… because the small donors that put him over the top in 08 are all unemployed & being foreclosed upon… and the unions which did a huge GOTV for him are all struggling for survival.
At this point I think I hate that motherfucker more than most teabaggers do. -

I disagree. Gore siphoned off key votes from Nader’s campaign.
The fact is, Nader represented the interests of the vast majority of Americans far better than Gore (or Kerry), and McKinney certainly represented our interests to a greater extent than Obomber. -
