pokums commented on the diary post Interview: Energy Investor Bill Powers Discusses Looming Shale Gas Bubble by Steve Horn.
“What a glorious vision of the future: It’s cold, it’s dark and we’re all hungry,” Powers said in response to the fact that there were activists outside of the city’s convention center.
Quibble: according to the link in the ‘Powers said’ link, it was McClendon that said this. (And now Powers has appropriated the quote for [...]

pokums commented on the blog post Religious right portrays Jason Collins as threatening black man who has ‘butt sex’
I agree, it’s all about the gay butt-sex… can’t see it having anything to do with a “threatening black man” as asserted in the title and twice in the post.

pokums commented on the blog post Colorado Legislature Adopts Regulations for Newly Legal Marijuana Market
Not sure, but don’t think so, because of this recent court ruling among other reasons. Might involve voluntary transport to a medical facility for testing and automatic arrest and presumption of guilt if you don’t. But the consensus seems to be that it will lead to massive legal challenges, sort of like there’d be if they passed an alcohol DUI limit of having had a drink in the last 7 days.

all 20 lines of it!
Actually, it’s 30 lines (2 pages), but a commendable piece of legislation that’s going nowhere nevertheless.

Kind of a tragically pretty photo.

pokums commented on the diary post Fukushima Plus Two: Still the Beginning? by Gregg Levine.
I know he’d posted here, but his diary’s gone now. From Harvey Wasserman:

Well, maybe you killing the deer (with your bare hands!), instead of outsourcing, would be more local.

No prob, as much stuff as you throw our way every day, you’re bound to have a glitch now and then. Looks like Guv Hick and the state AG will sue Fort Collins on behalf of the energy corps… state vs. local control issues, seems kinda analogous to the fed vs. state control issues over MJ legalization.

Hasn’t someone come up with a “Godwin’s law” equivalent to “criticism of anything Repubs do” descending to a lynching?

But think how many crimes won’t be committed because of the preventive impact of the eye-in-sky. Same with city-cams… I’d probably go on a murderous rampage if I knew I wasn’t being CCTV’d all the time.

pokums commented on the diary post Hubris Isn’t the Half of It by David Swanson.
What would be decent about mentioning that collateral damage… to praise their great warriorism and sacrifice in killing/displacing 1000x that many innocent Iraqis?

pokums commented on the blog post Every Day the Senate Gets More Idiotic: Chuck Hagel Edition
something so petty
Whole dust-up seems petty and trivial in our neo-fascist world. DOD can go on droning and instigating new conflicts as they wish just fine without a new CEO. Probably makes things easier for them in fact with the spotlight on the dysfunctional (as the PTBs obviously like it) Senate.
