johnnysaynever commented on the blog post Boehner Opens Grand Bargain Negotiations By Proposing the Romney Plan
Unlike 2008, this time Wall Street spent more money than they gave him trying to unseat him. But it may be over-optimistic to think that this will make a difference.

Yep, the closer it gets, the less ground the Ohio Diebold/GOP/intimidation apparatus has to make up.

johnnysaynever commented on the blog post Debate Odds and Ends
My 60 year old mother-in-law (classic swing voter) is also leaning heavily towards Romney. It’s bad news for Obama. I think for a lot of older people who were willing to vote for Obama in 2008, their perception is that the ‘Change’ experiment failed and they’re heading back to the comforting arms of the rich white guy and his bright-eyed sidekick.

johnnysaynever commented on the diary post “Leaderless” movements, “no-boss” collectives, and other left-radical hypocrisy by Sarah Morrigan.
Occupy lost a lot of supporters since last October. There seems to be a perception that the people who left were DNC/Obamabots who wouldn’t have been useful anyway. But that’s incorrect—Occupy repelled a lot of firmly left-oriented folks who ought to have been a perfect fit for Occupy. And while there are certainly many reasons [...]

johnnysaynever commented on the blog post The Romney Campaign Pre-Obituaries
The Romney campaign attracted a ton of money from one-percenters, much of which hasn’t even been spent yet. I get that Obama is politically useful as president to enact austerity, but it still makes me wonder why so many zillionaires threw so much good money after bad (to Romney’s campaign). Maybe there are events yet to play out in this campaign.

johnnysaynever commented on the blog post Harsh Media Reactions to Romney Criticism of Obama Regarding the Embassy Attacks
Romney is turning into a gaffe-machine, but on the other hand I don’t think this hurts him with anyone who was already ready to vote for him. Anti-Muslim warmongering is low-risk/low reward for a Republican candidate.

Pick your poison: austerity is coming either way. The DNC seemed to do a better job of making people feel awesome about it.

John Sherman commented on the blog post Obama Looks Past Current Crisis in Nomination Speech
I guess you could make the case that he’s being much more open about embracing austerity than before. So a ‘values voter’ might give him points for honesty.

John Sherman commented on the blog post Democrats Cave on Platform, Make Changes on God, Jerusalem
Unbelievable. One day after Deval Patrick tells delegates that Democrats need to grow a backbone, Democrats allow the Weekly Standard to do line-edits to their party platform.

John Sherman commented on the blog post Thoughts on Day 1 at the DNC – The Rise of the Social Liberals
I’ll give the Democrats credit to the extent that I think they really are committing to those social issues more than ever before. And that is positive step. But to commit to tackling the core economic issues would take far more political courage because it means corporate donor streams drying up. I just worry that holding my nose and voting for Democrats out of fear or disgust with the new crop of Republican cretins is enabling the Democrats to avoid taking the next step. It’s sad to watch this convention because I’m wired to root for the Democrats and on a personal level, I tend to like them. But I know better.

John Sherman commented on the blog post Decision Day in Wisconsin as Historic Recall Election Concludes
I think Walker will win. The silver lining is that broken public sector unions won’t make Wisconsin a better place to live, and people will see that eventually. It may be past time to stop trying to prop up the old union husks and start inventing the new structures to replace them. There’s no shortage of aggrieved workers out there.

John Sherman commented on the blog post WI: Gov. Walker Looking Strong Before Recall
Anti-union forces are going to shout this from the rooftops once Walker is re-elected. Better to not recall at all than have this happen (recall & lose). Total fail.

John Sherman commented on the diary post Report from Chicago Spring: May Day Chicago – the Tension between Respect and Pushing the Envelope by TarheelDem.
As if the term ‘separation of time and space’ wasn’t vague enough, in practice it’s completely subjective. If you’re marching with a black bloc, ultimately you are there to provide cover for black bloc activities. From the perspective of the black bloc, your function is to happily be a meat shield. The person who decides [...]

John Sherman commented on the diary post May Day Eve In SF-Fail! by Larue-Clique Member Since LibbyGate.
To me, this is the true Battle For the Soul of Occupy. My understanding of Occupy (admittedly local) is that veal-pen Democrats and middle-of-the-road liberals were shown the door months ago. The critical debate is whether Occupy is going to endorse and encourage property destruction, violence-advocacy, strict anti-capitalism (including small businesses), and a tactical focus on [...]

John Sherman commented on the diary post A message to our leaders by Synoia.
At some point it seems like the decision was made to economically ‘save’ the United States by turning it into the policeman/hired thug for international finance and corporations, with US dollar being backed solely by the US military’s capacity to inflict violence.
