ProgThis commented on the blog post Elizabeth Warren Expresses No Confidence in Current Bank Accountability Measures
It was a rhetorical question, but yeah, basically. I’d like to know why FDL is in the bag for Warren though? DSCC money? They like her stance on crippling Iran sanctions?

If Warren really wanted to remain effective, she wouldn’t have run for the Senate. Now she’s just part of the problem.

Warren on the CFPB and Obama:
Professor Warren: I really think we all have to remember this: We would not have a consumer agency if not for President Obama. Two years ago, right about now, he looked out, and he said, “The consumer agency, that’s what I want to put in financial regulatory reform.” Over the next year while everybody fought back and forth over the regulatory reform bill, there were a lot of offers on the table to get something else if you kill the consumer agency, or if you’d weaken it. He consistently said no. And a year ago right now, this week, he signed into law a bill that made this consumer agency exist and as strong and independent way.
Funny, innit?

So, she’d basically give placating speeches, but toe the party line, firmly hand-in-hand with the President?

Crimes against property are not violence – is what I meant. I kind of wrote this on the fly and didn’t realize there were that many typos. Oops.

On May 1, 30,000 protesters marched on Wall St. – how many people actually heard about this via traditional media?

If you’re depending on public sympathy, what happens when the TV news stops reporting the arrests and/or the police violence?

It isn’t merely a question of repudiating violence. Violence will occur whether you like it or not. Most of the violence will be inflicted on protestors by police, but there will also be some violence by protestors, even if as a movement you’ve decided to employ nonviolence. What will you do with your allies who [...]

I was a member of Hollande’s party at the time so I was invited to join the French delegation. When we left Downing Street, Hollande matter of factly asked me whether Blair’s third way could be imported into France. I replied that anything is importable, but I warned that an attempt to bring to France Blair’s “Thatcherism with a human face” would result in the annihilation of the French left. Hollande looked bored.

Gandhi made it clear that while he was opposed to murder under any circumstances, he also refused to denounce the murderer. This was a man who was trying to do the right thing, to act against an historical injustice, but did it in the wrong way

It is always morally superior, he insisted, to oppose injustice through non-violent means than through violent means. However, to oppose injustice through violent means is still morally superior to not doing anything to oppose injustice at all. And Gandhi was talking about people who were blowing up trains, or assassinating government officials. Not damaging windows or [...]
