And as you said Jon, it’s the stupid public perception. They are old enough to go to wars, kill and be killed at 18 but remain 3 years away from alcohol and marijuana. Stupid…just stupid!

  • I actually agree with both fiver and Jane.
First Jane, I agree that Jon as much as anyone else provided a lot of info on ACA. Much of it has been very critical.

I also agree with fiver however on the substance and technicality. Jon’s commentary on this decision in this instance give’s team obama an out on this crappy ACA law.

Paranoid…no, not at all. I just want consistency of policy and law. I also live in a border state, California.

Calling out the national guard is something governors can do. Many governors, not just border state governors are concerned about the resources needed to support these illegal immigrants. In addition, so are those people in those communties getting impacted.

Its nice to have the pollyanish pie in the sky view. I asked however is this the path one wishes to take.
I gather given your response we ought not have border laws and just let all who can get here to stay here.

And that really is the bottom line isn’t it. I know it’s over used butit’s part of he kabuki theater. That’s why I’ve heard the repubs really don’t want to change the status quo. Too much money from the US Chamber of Commerce.

I hear ya. I already have my desk. :)

Sometimes I think there is a knee jerk opposition reaction coming from anything republican. I like to think I’m looking at the big picture here.

Oh and yes, I am a liberal. Old school liberal, not the modern day obama/democrat so called liberals.

I guess I’m looking at this differently.
Obviously Perry could gain politically here but let’s address whats happening at the border?

Are our border laws meaningless? Should we just dump border laws and simply say whogets here stays here?

Should ignore that some of these so call kids are not kids?

Should we turn a blind eye to the fact at some are gang members and just relocate them to various parts of the country anyway?

Should our border laws be abritrarily enforced? For example when a boatload of Haitians were caught over a year ago trying to enter this country, there was no mercy or outcry of support. They wre promptly sent bac to Haiti!

  • I haven’t forgot.
So because it happened before, it’s ok for the muslims to have their turn at barbarism at the expense of women?

  • Name the other sects that should be denounced.

  • Are these muslim groups protesting the administration also protesting the kidnapping of girls and women in Nigeria? Are they protesting honor killings?

Sorry, but until I see more of that, when I think islam I think of a religion that is misogynistic and belongs in the ash heap.

So what was the Obama plan for mandatory service? I am unfamiliar. At the outset I would have been opposed to it too but I am interested to read your take on it?

By the way, did this take into account those who had coverage but were dropped due to obamacare?

exactly. All the bullshit obama and the dems fed us.

From what I’m heaing premiums are expected to spike upwards in many locales and the dems are trying to get the states to push this notification till after the election.
So much for premiums and rates going down.

  • The economic incentive and prospect for the kids are a lot better here than what these kids face in Honduras for example. This despite our own economic problems.

As for turning themselves in, that makes complete sense. Wih so many claiming fear of violent gangs, they will be allowed to stay till their court date for a hearing. Some may not even show up.

I don’t begrudge them being sent or looking for a better life. Let’s just not paint this as something it isn’t.

  • edit:

Well, let’s be real here. I’d be willing to bet most are here for economic reasons, incentivized by talk of amnesty. The fear for their lives is not the prime motivator in my opinion. Certainly nowhere near the holocaust like conditions those jews feared and you allude to.

And while it’s easy to kick back and say let the thousands even millions from across the globe in, there are economic and social realities that are being too easily dismissed.

The idea of keeping ‘em here till things resolve in their home countries is laughable. You as well just give them residency/citizenship. How ya gonna send these folks back after several years of acculturation.

Look, I’m all for being humanitarian to these kids, even if some are gangsters from what I’ve heard. Give them medical care, feed them, then as soon as possible return them to their families in their respective countries.

  • Well, my thing is this pie in sky attitude is just not realistic. It sets up a worse situation.
Heck, given what stewart advocates, we may as well send ships to Africa and Asia where kids face even worse conditions and relocate millions of kids to various communities across the 50 states.

  • Ok, accepting that that over 2 year old report is still true, what should be done with the 57 thousand kids now at the border? Should we just continue the status quo with 10s of thousands showing up from various parts of the world?

  • My conscious is quite clear actually.

So are you saying we have no problem at the border?

  • Well yeah. We have fuked aund with sentral aerican ountries. I remember dems like lanny davis justifying the overthrow of the honduran government as obama lied as he supported it. Just part of the estabishment thinking regardless of party.

The recent surge goes right back to obama and is invitation in 2012 for llegal immigraion which bolstered hs election. Now in typical obama fashion, he really doesn’t want to get his hands dirty in this current mess he helped create.

The solution, send them home. That will send the message. Otherwise we solve nothing.
