I hope I didn’t imply that I think DU weapons are OK. They are a nightmare. It should be obvious to anyone that they are. I called my first response “quibbles.” I was just hoping to steer you away from making remarks about “coatings” that might later reduce your credibility.
We’re on the same side. -
RaggMopp commented on the diary post Just Look What They’ve Done to Iraq by wendydavis.
I don’t think the US military uses DU “coatings” on anything. See my reply to Synoia at #22. The DU comes from these disintegrated DU anti-armor rounds. And yes it’s horrible. Reminds me of the cigarette battles. White phosphorous artillery rounds were standard issue during WW II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Gulf War, as well [...]

Not so. A solid steel bullet is not heavy enough to hold its velocity for 3000 meters like a DU round does. Don’t think steel bullet disintegrates like a DU round either, but that may be a function of the velocity. 5000 fps is the magic number. I think maybe we’re talking past each other. [...]

“One RT video I watched said that the DU explodes on impact, and makes the missile penetrate further.” Actually, as I understand it, the penetrator disintegrates during penetration, it goes thru the exterior armor and is vaporized in the process, causing the interior of target armored vehicle to burn/explode. Pictures of Russian made T-72 tanks [...]

Yes. My point was regards doing an intentional DIRTY BOMB. And yes it would be really dirty. Really, really dirty. Not DU. DU is nowhere near dirty enough to qualify as a dirty bomb.

On second thought, the two quotes above seem to imply “dirty bombs.”
If the US military was intending “dirty bombs”, they would not bother with DU; they’d use plutonium. DU isn’t even in that league. -

Got the message. No argument there. Two quibbles, hoping to improve your piece: “He also brought further news on the massive damage that was done to humans by the use of depleted uranium coatings on the bombs and missiles that were used to ‘shock and awe’ Iraq during the Gulf Wars.” “We heard similar, but [...]

Yes.

“I don’ want any of your stinking capitalist badges. So go F**k yourself!”
Most of this sounds fanciful, and the thing about the “over privileged, well heeled, snob” government employees from “Numbnuts” leaves me wondering if I misunderstood altogether.
But I’m just about sure that God actually said, “…go fuck yourself.”

Not to worry, that was my last one ever on FDL. Prolly wasn’t that entertaining anyway.

RaggMopp commented on the diary post Learning the Hard Way: The False Promises of Standardized Tests by amerigus.
When I was on the school board of the Etoile (Texas) Independent School District, I had an otherwise seemingly rational older person say to me, “We educated our kids, now it’s time for these younger ones to educate theirs. Or words to that effect. Clearly meaning that they did not want to contribute to the [...]

RaggMopp commented on the blog post Former AFRICOM Chief at Senate Hearing: Using Word ‘Drone’ Fuels Al Qaeda Propaganda
“There is an information operations campaign by Al Qaeda going on against us. The word “drone” actually has a connotation that we’ve got these autonomous vehicles flying around and striking at will without a whole lot of oversight and scrutiny to them.”
How does it feel, Kevin, to know you are an Al Qaeda information operations (propaganda?) operative? I hope you are duly chastened.

Don’t credit American “educators.” My wife, God rest her soul, was a teacher, she taught HS English and French (ELA?) in Texas. You remember George W. Bush, no doubt. This is where this silly shit started. First time I ever heard of this business was a day in the early eighties when she came home [...]

And what exactly do you find objectionable there?
They seem to me at least as legitimate as Pope Francis. At least they sometimes offer a useful product for sale at a profit and not a completely bogus promise upon which no one ever collect.

RaggMopp commented on the blog post The GOP autopsy generates a lot of walking (brain) dead. This week it’s Ben Carson and Don Young
“…, I used a term that was commonly used during my days growing up on a farm in Central California.”
Derogatory terms apparently have long legs. The term came from Texas. That’s the only place on the Mexican boarder where one might get wet attempting illegal entry. That’s because the Rio Grande River (El Rio Bravo del Norte) is the boundary there, nowhere else. It’s never been anything but a derogatory term.
Does it occur to us that much of this sort of thing reflects an abysmal ignorance derived from total lack of interest. Maybe you need to be brain dead to be a Republican. Or maybe it just reflects a life of total insularity from all but the in-crowd.

Iranian speed boats, BTW. Me and my oldest boy, an ex-Army Ranger, were commiserating the other night about the coming invasion of Iran, and we agreed: Forget whatever you thought you’d learned in Iraq; them SOB’s will fight! They’re what we used to call Persians, they’re not in the habit of gettin’ kicked around. And [...]

“Damn our politicians to hell. (Which is such an ineffectual thing for an atheist –or at least agnostic– to say….)”
It’s actually no worse than a Christian saying it. Although I guess he might get more satisfaction from it. He may actually believe it will matter,

Not to discount the problem, but I am reminded of a story I heard back in the seventies: The US Air Force had arranged an exercise wherein the new F-15 Eagle squadrons would be pitted against older National Guard squadrons flying F-5 Freedom Fighters (little needle nosed planes that we gave to the South Vietnamese [...]
