Is deniability really a consideration for Feinstein? She chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee for Chrissake. Thanks for the Tolstoy. Now I don’t have to get falling down, piss drunk to make it through the day. Love that he includes “reading the newspaper” as one of the methods of dulling the senses. Nothing new under the [...]

Shout out to Fairleft who wrote the first response I saw to that editorial. http://www.pffugeecamp.com/diary/1548/right-on-cue-officers-are-the-real-heroes-in-dorner-saga

Genki Apocalypse wrote a new diary post: There Are No Heroes In The Chris Dorner Saga

    2013-02-23 11:56:11View | Delete

by Genki Apocalypse   Let’s get this out of the way right now – what Christopher Dorner did was wrong.   Much of the public debate about the weeklong ordeal in the California hills focuses on how wrong Chris Dorner was.  I’m not sure that point is worthy of much debate though. It may be far [...]

Genki Apocalypse commented on the blog post Facebook Likes Chris Christie

Also since Facebook just finished fighting in court for a policy of non-disclosure to a user’s employer or potential employer thus would be a most mystifying betrayal.

Facebook owns the data you put on their site or rather information you put on “your” profile.

How absolute is that? Is Facebook required to scrub the data so that it is unidentifiable? Are they limited by the expectation of privacy provision that is supposed to keep third parties including the government out of your protected tweets? They are called PRIVACY settings after all.

After Republicans got massively out-geeked this year I figured since they have no desire to do grassroots footwork that their next move would be to try and buy themselves a database somewhere. I figured it would be Google or Amazon though (et tu Zuckerberg?). But if any of the above provisions apply in the least, better for Christie to back away or else find himself in the middle of a digital Watergate.

How on earth did a Japanese conviction get overturned? The ghost of Johnnie Cochrane says he’s very impressed.

I cringed when he used “one indispensable nation” in the inaugural. It sounds better from the mouth of a Secretary of State whose job is to build int’l coalitions than it does from a president who autosigns kill orders. There’s no way his administration will voluntarily give up that authority. It has to be an [...]

Genki Apocalypse commented on the blog post Rev. Irene Monroe: Obama linking Selma to Stonewall divides black community

    2013-01-26 18:09:10View | Delete

    Rev. Monroe,

I share your concern that some African American ministers might feel slighted by nods to gay activists but I don’t personally know anyone who has spoken out to that effect. Can you cite anyone’s public comments on the matter? I just want to make sure we’re not stuffing ourselves a strawman here.

That’s another thing that bothers me about the lack of real foreign policy engagement is it allows all kinds of idiocy to fill the vacuum. Nobody in the public sphere gets it right on Iran, not one. Looking back in retrospect there is precisely one sure lesson the Iraq example made abundantly clear. Clear as [...]

Everything you say about the U.S. policy in the Middle East is true. And I did not draw a sharp enough distinction between Bush and Obama in the piece. The differences are first that Bush removing an Arab strongman was, as I noted, a ruse to fulfill the very purposes you suggest. A second is [...]

Thumbnail One of my favorite movies of all-time is Martin Scorsese’s “The Aviator”.   The film features Leonardo DiCaprio in what I believe to be his strongest role to date as aviation mogul Howard Hughes.  The film leaves history to comment on Hughes’ later days as a Las Vegas recluse and focuses instead on his days [...]
