  •   Stephen Colbert gained some attention a few months ago when CBS announced that he would take over hosting the Late Show  when David Letterman retires some time next year.  While that is flattering to Stephen Colbert, it will create a huge vacuum when he leaves.  Stephen Colbert has contributed greatly to political satire. His sarcasm has become [...]

ThumbnailThings are starting to look bleak for the Democrats in this year’s midterm elections. A Pew Research Center/USA Today poll found that voters favor the Republicans in 47%-43%. That may seem small but it is enough to vastly increase the Republican majority in the House and give them back the Senate, not to mention the number [...]

  • Any time the media provides any type of reporting that is favorable to Democrats or unfavorable to Republicans conservatives will scream that they are victims of the liberal media bias.  We all know of that ploy that conservatives use by now, and that this claim is bogus. Anyway, I would like to go to the [...]

ThumbnailRupert Murdoch declared in a recent interview that “Fox News has saved the Republican Party.” (http://www.boston.com/news/nation/2014/04/10/rupert-murdoch-fox-news-has-saved-republican-party/4EdBwiOLfZydwvqIDmmFsJ/story.html)  In the interview he talked about how Fox News had “given voice and hope to people who didn’t like all that liberal championing thrown at them on CNN.” First of all, I would say that Murdoch is suggesting that Fox [...]

  • CBS has announced that Stephen Colbert will take over The Late Show  when David Letterman retires in 2015.(http://uproxx.com/tv/2014/04/meet-your-new-late-show-host-stephen-colbert/) So far most people are regarding this take over as a promotion for Stephen Colbert.  Even the people who loathe Colbert seem to agree that it is a promotion.  Rush Limbaugh has already said that CBS had proved it had [...]

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) World Service has been losing audiences.  One may attribute it to the start up of similar news services and stations, such as Al Jazeera.  They have faced budget cuts in the last few years too, although funding has been on the upswing very recently.  Additionally, the BBC has expanded itself [...]

I was watching some BBC News in the last week and they were having a panel discussion.  One topic was Ed Miliband, the leader of Britain’s Labour Party.  Commentators believed that he is ready to take the party back to where it was in the 1970′s, when it supported having major industries such as coal, [...]

  • ThumbnailSince March 8 much of the news seems to have been focused on the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370.  Yes, it is important in terms of aviation safety and to the families and friends of the people on board to find out what happened.  It seems as though people have become obsessed with the situation, [...]

    2014-03-06 12:55:02View | Delete

On Tuesday March 4, The Daily Show talked about Fox News blasting food stamp recipients for eating fried chicken and other junk food. The Fox News rant included chastising these recipients for going into Disney World to obtain their food. Then Jon Stewart pointed out that it would be better if they bought healthier food with [...]

I think you are backing my argument that Bill de Blasio should run for president instead and we should keep Elizabeth Warren in the Senate. At the very least, she will support President de Blasio when he pushes for financial reform. In the meantime, we can gain more insight as to whether Senator Warren is [...]

We have seen only a limited number of progressive Democrats in recent years.  New York City’s new mayor Bill de Blasio might just be one of them.  Apart from addressing the Israeli Public Affairs Committee and declaring that he is “unabashedly pro-Israeli,” he has set a strong progressive record so far.  There have been issues [...]

    2014-02-03 10:56:14View | Delete

Obama is saying he will take action on matters such as the minimum wage for federal contractors with executive orders, thereby bypassing Congress.  People on the right of course claim that shows he is trying to turn America into a dictatorship.  I am not convinced.  Presidents have had the power to make executive orders for [...]

Let me set some things straight. I only voted for Kerry because he was better than Bush. I signed an online petition saying he should not be confirmed as Secretary of State because he pandered to the right too much. What I am saying is that he is becoming more “energized.” That does not mean [...]

Since becoming Secretary of State we have seen John Kerry start to work vigorously for peaceful deals to various conflicts in the world.  He has worked hard to strike a deal with Iran on the nuclear issue, for instance.  Mr. Kerry has also worked hard at brokering a deal to better resolve the Arab-Israeli dispute. [...]

It was hilarious watching The Daily Show last night. Frequently, Jon Stewart shows clips of Fox News reporters making fools of themselves. This time they sauteed themselves. They are convinced that the current cold front we have been experiencing has proven that global warming isn’t real. Stuart Varney and others are convinced that all the [...]

  • rykky commented on the diary post Obama Is Finally Starting To Become Liberal! by rykky.

I am not saying I think Obama is becoming a true “progressive” or “liberal.” I am simply asking the question. As I said in the last paragraph, I am fairly doubtful that he is becoming liberal/progressive. And no, neither Cass Sunstein nor Rachel Maddow wrote this blog.

In only about the last year and a half has President Obama started to display the behavior of a true progressive. He made the appearance of being one when he ran for president in 2008. Once he entered office, however, he all but deserted liberalism. First, he bailed out the banks. Then he failed to [...]

  • rykky wrote a new diary post: The Story of How to Remedy Student Debt!

    2013-09-02 07:07:00View | Delete

Once upon a time, there was a group of students and former students (around 50 million) who had become fed up with having to pay back student loans. While having to pay back the loans, these students and former students often could not find any work at all. Others could find only minimal work. So [...]

This week the Supreme Court made a couple positive rulings on same-sex marriage.  First, it declared the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional.  Then it said that the appellants did not have standing to challenge the Federal District Court’s ruling  that Proposition 8 was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court was correct in striking down DOMA.  Just [...]

  • Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina does not have a problem with the Obama administration tapping people’s phone conversations and reading people’s emails.  It is ironic that while most Republicans are content with this spying some Democrats are the biggest critics of these spying tactics.  These Democrats include notable liberals such as Representative Henry [...]
