But his 2008 Obama-Biden Health Insurance Plan made repeated references to “the new public plan”. And in case one mistook that for another name for the proposed National Insurance Exchange, they used it in an exclusive reference in the same sentence. From the paper itself, which can be found here:

“The Obama-Biden plan will create a National Health Insurance Exchange to help individuals purchase new affordable health care options if they are uninsured or want new health insurance. Through the Exchange, any American will have the opportunity to enroll in the new public plan or an approved private plan, and income-based sliding scale tax credits will be provided for people and families who need it. Insurers would have to issue every applicant a policy and charge fair and stable premiums that will not depend upon health status. The Exchange will require that all the plans offered are at least as generous as the new public plan and meet the same standards for quality and efficiency.”

I know we could have this conversation forever, and now we’re off topic. But even with all the anger I feel at Obama’s numerous realpolitik betrayals, I still can’t bring myself to reflexively oppose this move against the LRA.

LRA has been around long enough to give us decades of (quite horrific) archival information via magazine and newspaper articles, as well as reports from the UN and human rights groups. What is amazing is that it seems people have to re-learn this information all over again, including journalists who should know better. Here’s a report from Human Rights Watch on a massacre they committed in 2009 that also gives a good grounding in exactly what kind of sadistic mass murderers they are. And as an aside, I remember reading years ago an account from one of the escaped child soldiers of how newly-abducted kids were forced to bite another child to death.

I have a lot of problems with Obama…but this sure as hell isn’t one of them. And I’ll await the determination of finer Constitutional minds than mine before accusing him of expanding the unitary executive on this issue.

Go agro…legalize the cultivation of opium, coca, and marijuana. Take the means of production away from the middlemen. And as a bonus, the less-refined end products will be less harmful to consume.

Everybody objects to something. Everyone is afraid of stepping on a crack or walking under a ladder or some such superstitious shit. But just because I have a superstition with a capital “S” and call it “sincerely held”, I get to carve bigger and bigger chunks of religious exemption out of your freedom to the integrity of your own body.

Speaking of older folks, we spent the weekend with my 92-year old mother-in-law, who well remembers the Great Depression and the times before the social safety net was engineered. She flat out thinks the extremists on the right, focusing on a temporary debt issue so they can dismantle the entire New Deal are out of their minds. God, I wish we had more really old people to remind us of why we got all these “socialist” programs in the first place.

Jesus Christ! It seems like only yesterday the Right was claiming Martin Luther King for themselves and bowdlerizing his connection to the labor movement. Now they’re trying to re-write FDR as a wet-behind-the-ears snot bag who lived on government largesse as a child but saw the light and devoted himself to euthanizing the disposable classes when he grew up.

Between this shit and Jonah Goldberg turning Hitler’s Kristalnacht into a Burning Man event run by vegans and Noam Chomsky, I fully expect to wake up one day inside the Large Hadron Collider.

I really wish that these self-styled rugged individualists would all move the hell out to Nunavit and build a damn cabin and leave the rest of us in peace.
