Robespierre commented on the blog post This Shameful Abuse of Bradley Manning

There was an article at Kos today. Included a couple of links to Marcy here, too.

[UPDATED] Clinton Spokesperson Denounces Treatment of Manning/President Responds

Thank you very much for sharing this great article with our community here.

“That’s what they are after, I suspect, with Manning. They don’t care if the confession is true or false, so long as it implicates WikiLeaks in a way that will help them prosecute Julian Assange.”

I agree that this seems the most likely reason for their conduct. And I won’t be surprised at all to hear it reported that Manning does indeed “commit suicide” once they’ve got their “confession.”

And I expect that this is only the beginning, unfortunately.

I do, however, find it astounding that they are allowing this all to play out on such a public stage. It’s like they just don’t care anymore.

Robespierre commented on the blog post The Logical Consequence of Looting in Libya

    2011-03-11 14:55:02View | Delete

“And yet our society continues to just sit there and wink as elites here, in Libya, and around the world prepare for the time when they need to pay an army to kill their own people.”

So it is and has been, and people need to keep aware that they may someday face these kinds of challenges. But I am still made hopeful by words from a man of peace:

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall — think of it, ALWAYS.”
    ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Sad, but, yeah, I’d say he’s owning it now. At least we know where he stands on this issue. Manning may be subjected to stripdowns, but it’s the emperor who is being revealed as having no clothes.

So, who and where are the progressive candidates we can get behind? That’s what I’d like to know.

Thanks for sharing that Democracy Now link. I hadn’t seen that before. Naomi Klein – as usual – has done her homework. Good insights there.

    Sorry. Spelling Nazi here.

Perhaps we can pile them all up and have Lynndie England pose in front of them for pictures?

Demonization of rank-and-file soldiers isn’t likely to provide useful results (and probably isn’t accurate, anyway). The targeted efforts by Anonymous seem much better. Keep in mind the lesson of Tahrir Square. Mubarak ordered the military to fire upon the citizens, and they refused. That was the moment that Mubarak lost the game, and his power [...]
