I would be too, but I accept the possibility that speed may dictate. The closest I’ve ever been to a tornado was that one that jumped over our house. They say it sounds like a train-but that always suggested a directionality that was absent in real life. There was no sense of direction-this roar just appeared, everywhere, all at once, and in a second the whole house was whistling-and I had no idea even which way to run.

Closets. Bathrooms. I knew a family once who survived in a driveway culvert while the tornado destroyed their house.

I was sitting in my living room programming a laser when the alarm went off. Man, what a sick feeling, sitting here at 4am, watching a radar image of a tornado headed straight for you, with it pitch dark and storming. There are no underground shelters in this part of FL; hell, you can’t even build a basement. Florida tornadoes-they’re never very big, but we do get a fair number of them. Had one jump right over the house some years back-the whole house whistled like a tea kettle.

Oy yeah, the bilk of the storm went right over me. Not too bad, ‘cept for the tornadoes bouncing around. Had one pass ahout 5 miles away last night.

That’s what I was doing when I first found FDL on 2005. Building boats and playing in the Pink Floyd tribute band. I am still very proud of that band, and my work with it.
