rossl commented on the blog post The World Begins Anew: Zapatistas Demonstrate Against the Resurrected PRI
This is very inspiring! I was in Chiapas this summer and stayed a week at a Zapatista governing center, and it makes me incredibly happy to see pictures of them in the cities there. It’s also important that most, if not all (I’m just not sure), of the Zapatistas are Maya.
And here’s their communique that day:
December 21, 2012
Communiqué of the Clandestine Revolutionary Indigenous Committee – General Command of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation, Mexico.
December 21, 2012
To Whom It May Concern:
DID YOU HEAR IT?
It’s the sound of their world ending.
It’s that of ours resurging.
The day that was the day, was night.
The night will be the day that will be the day.
DEMOCRACY!
LIBERTY!
JUSTICE!
From the mountains of the Mexican Southeast.
For the Clandestine Revolutionary Indigenous – General Command of EZLN
Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos

rossl commented on the diary post Jill Stein announces Cheri Honkala, poor peoples’ advocate, as her choice for VP by rossl.
I actually think Cheri has the potential to really broaden the Green Party’s appeal. Or at least begin to do so. She’s started doing it incredibly well in Philadelphia, and the group that she brings into the party is poor people. In Philly, we’ve gotten new candidates and neighborhood leaders in the party (not to [...]

Originally posted at IndependentPoliticalReport.com. CBS News is reporting, in an interview with her, that Green Party presumptive presidential nominee Jill Stein has announced her choice for the party’s vice presidential candidate, to be approved at this week’s convention in Baltimore . Cheri Honkala is the Stein campaign’s choice, a poor people’s advocate based in Philadelphia and the national coordinator of the Poor People’s Economic [...]

Michael, send me an email (rlevin@wesleyan.edu) about what you want to ask her – I’ll be meeting her at an event I’m helping to organize in the next few weeks. I intend to vote for her, but I think healthy criticism helps the movement in the long run, so let’s talk.

I guess that’s what happens when you have a nice, high-paying job on Democrat-friendly TV.

rossl commented on the diary post Vote Against Obama in Iowa by Cenk Uygur.
Cenk, I hope you read this. Two things. Darcy Richardson is running a protest campaign against Obama in the Democratic primaries. The other, the Green Party is still an option in 2012 – we’ve got Jill Stein, Kent Mesplay, and one or two other candidates running.

rossl commented on the diary post Californians: Register for Justice Party (Rocky Anderson) by January 2! by bluewombat.
Yeah, I donated $5 to them to help with that. Ballot access laws in the US are disgusting. They’re one part of a convoluted legal/electoral system designed piece by piece to stop legitimate competition.

Not just political people – friends and family. They need TONS of people registered to vote, there’s no reason to hold back – and tell them to tell their friends and family, too!

rossl commented on the diary post Californians: Register for Justice Party (Rocky Anderson) by January 2! by bluewombat.
This is EXTREMELY important! The Justice Party needs a lot of voters registered with them by Jan 1 – so do it if you’re in CA and get friends and family in CA to do it, too. I sent an email out to all of my friends in CA asking them to switch, and I [...]

rossl commented on the diary post We have less than a week to make history: Mark Miller CAN become MA’s first ever Green state representative! by rossl.
A lot of people have problems with their process, in fact. There’s been a huge controversy in the party about the consensus process, among other things. I’m not entirely happy with their processes either – but in cases where they’re a credible non-corporate alternative, I’m more than happy with them, regardless of my dissatisfaction with [...]

rossl wrote a new diary post: We have less than a week to make history: Mark Miller CAN become MA’s first ever Green state representative!
Last year, Mark Miller ran for state representative with the Green Party in Massachusetts. In a two way race with a Democrat, he got 45% of the vote. Now, after that same Democrat got appointed to another job, he’s running again. The election is October 18, and Mark has already received the endorsement (and with good [...]

rossl commented on the diary post Greens, Responding to Obama’s Speech, Call Green New Deal the Key to Job Creation by gpus.
The first step toward getting this to happen: ELECTING Greens! Our best chance right now is Mark Miller, who’s running in a special election on October 18, for state representative in Massachusetts. He got 45% in a two way race last year. Now he’s running a more organized campaign, but he needs our support as [...]

rossl commented on the diary post A Message to the Green Party: Get Busy Now! by EveningStarNM.
We need YOUR help to be successful! I don’t deal with the national Green Party, personally, because much more is happening at the local level, and that’s where we need to organize first for long term success. But the success of the Green Party doesn’t just depend on the presidential election or on the national [...]

rossl commented on the diary post The Chances of a Third Political Party by caleb36.
The chances of a third party? 100% – I’m a registered Green. If you want to do more than talk about third parties, there are several great chances to actually ACT to build up opposition to the two party system this year. The three best I can think of are Mark Miller’s race in MA, [...]
