Yeah, QIB, I’m calling bullshit on your bullshit call. The vast majority of the stay-at-home parents I know around the country all are comfortably middle to upper-middle class, without the need for a second income.
And, as far as day care as the “bourgeois indulgence” (a phrase that becomes less meaningful upon constant repetition), for most families it’s cheaper to do that than to give up the entirety of one spouse’s income. This is not to mention all the people who leave kids with relatives and friends and neighbors.
