Jake Tapper is being a bit obtuse. Dianna Buttu is talking about the number of Palestinian civilians including women and children killed. From this Jake jumps to they want to be martyrs. Women and children? I don’t think so. He neglects to recognize and mention the obscenity and recklessness of any military operation targeting civilian [...]

“But the government’s refusal to make a straight forward, simple argument for the mandate leaves the impression that the Affordable Care Act is now on shakier legal ground than it needed to be.”

The Obama administration seems to twist itself unmercifully to fit the situation or control the outcome. It is reactive and not reactive to what has happened but on what it thinks will happen. What a way to live a life. It seems a whole lot easier to take a stand and make a straight forward argument.

Thank you Wendy for posting this. I agree inclusion of the “social gospel” in the Occupy Wall Street Movement portends a powerful development. It is adding a depth of moral force that reaches back to Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement. I also like the objective from the Occupy Christmas event of bringing [...]

I don’t think it was a surprise to key groups involved in the initial Arab Spring protests in Egypt that the top military in Egypt posed a threat to their revolution. The top military after all was part of Mubarak’s regime. I admire the Egyptian people’s courage, determination and persistence to follow through with a [...]

“What I am urging is a return to the sensible view that prevailed in this country after World War II up until the Reagan Era.” Unfortunately, I don’t think we can go back. While the middle class was growing and there was better financial regulation at that time, the system itself was based on exploitation [...]

  • sailcat commented on the diary post Unable to Get Simeone Fired, NPR Drops “World of Opera” by David Swanson.

    2011-10-22 22:28:05View | Delete

This action by NPR is despicable. Thursday and Friday NPR was pleading that it was being wrongly accused of getting Ms. Simeone fired from Soundprint. They just forgot to mention that at the same time they were working to get her fired – removed from the air – from station WDAV and World of Opera. [...]

Thanks for the link shoephone. “Simeone, however, is a non-NPR employee who hosts an opera program produced by a North Carolina public radio station that has nothing to do with news. The program is distributed by NPR, but Simeone has no influence or roll in NPR news. The issue surrounding her, therefore, is a management [...]

“Other than Lisa’s role as host, Soundprint and WDAV’s World of Opera are completely unrelated. We are in conversation with WDAV about this matter. We fully respect that the management of WDAV is solely responsible for the decision making around Lisa’s participation in Occupy DC and her freelance role with WDAV’s program.” This all seems [...]

NPR seems stepping beyond a personnel issue. Why would they send an email to “All Staff” with the subject “Re: Communication Alert” to the whole organization? That seems over the top by the Director of Communications for NPR. Why would this not be sent to the legal department if there was a question of conflict [...]

“why NPR doesn’t condemn this and make a release telling employees when they are on their own time they have freedom of assembly and freedom of speech.” Excellent standard. This right to freedom of expression and assembly for employees should be enshrined as policy. Of course this isn’t the American Way/Reality at the present time [...]

Very good diary welsh terrier. I don’t think we can really have a representative democracy without economic democracy which you point out. In graduate school I remember a graph showing how to eliminate poverty. It showed (tongue in cheek but not really) if you wanted to eliminate poverty and increase incomes the solution was to [...]
