SaltinWound commented on the blog post Victory For Occupy Philly As Wells Fargo Protesters Acquitted
But it is the protestors who were called affable. For the record, I am fine with protestors who are not affable.

This group was protesting racism, but I have to wonder if the praise of the judge was tinged with it as well. Would she have been preconditioned to find them affable if eleven of them had been black?

SaltinWound commented on the blog post Come Saturday Morning: Neighborhood Nuclear Superiority!
Thanks for posting. Nesmith was my first boss when I graduated from college in 1981. He is an interesting guy who does not get proper credit for a lot of things, including selling the concept of MTV to Time Warner (he created the format with a show called Pop Clips for Nickelodeon).

SaltinWound commented on the diary post So what’s up with this LIPA privatization idea? Part One by Cynthia Kouril.
Are the ruinous commercial rates you cite in the past? Rates seem low in general right now.

SaltinWound commented on the blog post “Fiscal Cliff” Deal Seems Increasingly Less Likely
I disagree with the conservative position on the estate tax, but I see no reason to misstate it. They believe that the ability to leave money to heirs gives people who are already rich an incentive to make more money.

SaltinWound commented on the blog post Late Late Night FDL: All I Want For Christmas Is A Job
Gary Stockdale did a song with the same title which was widely released a year before this one came out. I really doubt that this is a case of great minds thinking alike. No one has ever accused the Alessi brothers of being great minds.

The same voice that made a statement that he is NOT marrying his granddaughter.

SaltinWound commented on the blog post FTC Commissioner J. Thomas Rosch: FTC Commissioners Never Intended for Google to Retain Hacked Safari Data
I just googled Jane Hamsher plus google to make sure these posts come up. They do. The conspiracy theorist in me thought they might not appear. Did you know that you can appeal to google if you feel your name or site should be prioritized higher in a search? A friend of mine did it once, albeit a well connected friend. Still, it is not something they seem to publicize.

SaltinWound commented on the blog post AARP Backs Down on Supporting Benefit Cuts
AARP is opposed to reductions for retirees, but they have no concern for future retirees. This just sets the stage for them to sell out the younger generation once again, without current seniors feeling the sting. That is what AARP does.

SaltinWound commented on the blog post Is the Softball Safari Settlement a Preview of the FTC’s Google Antitrust Case? An Interview with Gary Reback
Do the Google employees who handle sensitive information have security clearances? If not, why not?

SaltinWound commented on the blog post Is the Softball Safari Settlement a Preview of the FTC’s Google Antitrust Case? An Interview with Gary Reback
It is unbelievable to me that Petraeus and his cronies were using gmail for national security matters. Does Google have access to all that? Is there anything that stops them from using that sort of information for leverage (blackmail), to get what they want?

SaltinWound commented on the blog post Labor Gets Out the Vote, Now Shifts Directly to Organizing Against a Grand Bargain
If organized labor gets more power, it will be another field of play where they can sell out the younger generation. All the unions are going to two tiers. Labor is concerned with current members, like AARP caters to current seniors. These groups will have no problem signing off on an entitlement bargain so long as they are protected and just the kids get screwed.

SaltinWound commented on the blog post The Desperate Need to End the Sham That Is the Electoral College
I can not think of an argument for getting rid of the Electoral College that does not apply to the Senate.

SaltinWound commented on the blog post What David Freedlander’s Report on Blogs Left Out — Google
I appreciate that you appreciate the support, but it sounds like the numbers do not quite add up. If after all these years, you are still deficit financing this place, which I suspect you are, thanks again.

I appreciate that you have not gone to premium content, like tpm prime. It is more democratic here. Do memberships and contributions still make a difference?

SaltinWound commented on the blog post The Debate’s Benghazi Moment: America Cheers the Media Correcting the Record
The correction was almost incoherent, then she told Romney he was basically correct as well. No idea what people are so excited about.

SaltinWound commented on the blog post NFL Ends Lockout of Referees
It is partially true that they saved the defined benefit for five years. They did not save it for new employees. New employees get a 401k from the start. The younger generation is used to getting screwed, but I hate to add to the insult by pretending that they do not exist. I really do not know why they should fight to save Social Security when they know for a fact that the older generation will sell them out to protect their own benefits.

SaltinWound commented on the blog post NFL Referees Strike: Fans Must Tune Out for Labor to Succeed
Yeah, best case is that these few guys keep their benefits and then the owners get what they want for future employees. So in the long term, labor has already lost. It is hard for me to fault replacement refs. They are betraying the regular refs, but then the regular refs are clearly prepared to sell out anyone younger than themselves in their own union.
-
SaltinWound commented on the blog post NFL Referees Strike: Fans Must Tune Out for Labor to Succeed
I am not surprised that refs are willing to accept a hybrid structure. All of labor seems to be okay with screwing the next generation.

SaltinWound commented on the blog post GOP Convention and “The Magic Christian”
It is not the Republican problem you are writing about here, but he did ramble incoherently, and some Republicans might have had an issue with that, along with your topic of choice.
