  • I just got done rereading No Country for Old Men in preparation for my 10th grade students.

That part about Sherrif Bell strongly considering not reading the news anymore? I’m seriously thinking about taking him up on it. God, the wingnut stupid machine just never, ever lets up.

IF Tebow signs with San Diego, THEN I promise to purchase one item from the Amazon wish list in sympathy for the imagined look on your face when the crowd starts chanting for Timmy. I WILL ALSO

There is a Dead Can Dance box set that contains the entire concert that the above was taken from, and it is worth it for the DVD alone.

Is this the concert of which you speak? I remember the old Mayfair, back when Santa Monica wasn’t an annoying place to live and visit.

Holy rhymes-with-wit. That was epic, going up on the wall and frame it fantastic. Made my day and the day ain’t even started yet.

Have to give up something; that video you posted? Sent me to a different place.

    “Amidst…”

Sarah Palin has never, ever started a sentence with ‘amidst’. Sarah Palin thinks ‘amidst’ is that foggy stuff that hovers over one of the Alaskan swamps.

I’m sure it’s been written above and pardon me for not reading all the comments but, jeebus, she did not write that. We know it. Her supporters fucking know it.

I realize the Grammy’s have always been terrible but this evening? Oy!

I made it two minutes into the opening number and switched to Palladium.

I’ve been getting flu shots every year that I’ve been teaching. I’ve never gotten sick during the school year.

Until this year. I’m just coming out of it. I’m not going to top your description above other than to say, damn, this is some serious shit.

And one other thing before the lunch bell rings in period 5: If Pierce is not part of one’s daily reading, one should ask themselves why they are not doing so. One will then realize there is no good answer to that question.

Yeah, that ‘both sides’ comment made me wince. Props (as the kids say) for his actions re: Chambliss’ horrific behavior. Well, Chambliss among others, that is.

31 posts and nobody mentioned DRONZ?

That must be some kind of record in these here parts.

And major props (as the kids say) for coming up with the perfect word to describe EmoProgs and Wingnuts. Anhedonia… I’m teaching it to the kids next week when my break is over (sobs uncontrollably).

    Love and happiness in 2013.

I’ve been barely functional since Friday. As some of you know, I’m a teacher myself. Like some of you, I know some people who know of people involved with Sandy Hook Elementary. I don’t know what the hell to say.

But I do know this: arming us (remember, teacher speaking) is not the answer. I work with colleagues who I would literally take a bullet for (along with my students) and there isn’t one that I would trust to walk around campus with a gun. Hell, I don’t trust myself with a gun. The idea of open or concealed weapons on campus is, quite literally insane. It is an open invitation to shootings accidental or otherwise.

I hear you. Our rescued toy poodle/bichan slept in our bed when we got her last Thanksgiving (you click the link and you ask yourself “who rescued who?”). It’s been a year and let’s just say not much has changed except she’s taken a liking to the couch as well.

  • Times a thousand, PW. And from the article…

After Romney told his wealthy donors that he blamed his loss on “gifts” Obama gave to minority groups, his functionaries were unrepentant and Republican luminaries effectively cast him out.

I never saw the difference between the “functionaries” and the “luminaries” in the campaign because they were all leaping to Mitt’s defense after the 47% tape. And I know why I didn’t see the difference; because there is no difference. They all look at my black and brown students and see the offspring of welfare kings and queens, blindly voting for anyone who will keep them lazy and stupid. That’s how they see the world. They don’t even attempt to hide it.

Fuck you, Mitt. Fuck you, fuck your wife, your creepy kids and all of your functionaries and luminaries. Stay in your ridiculous home, living your ridiculously stupid life. The rest of us have work to do.

I love him. I love Peyton Manning so much my wife is getting worried.

I have a good friend who is a lifelong Colts fan (well, she’s 28). I told her before the season I was worried about Manning’s arm strength. Her replay, verbatim:

“Fuck arm strength. Tebow has more arm strength. It doesn’t matter with Manning. Just watch.”

And I’m still watching. Honestly, I knew he was good but I never how good until he started playing for my team. Man, he’s good. And man, do I ever *not* miss Tebow behind center.

    Man, was she right.
