Scarecrow commented on the blog post Why the Bain Issue Matters
Thanks for the link. I thnk there are very sophisticated bluffs going on, but the bottom line is, greece is gone. There is no scenario under which it stays in the Euro. The game now is trying to pin the blame on the other guy for how this is staged.

Scarecrow commented on the blog post Bain Capital Debate Busting Larger Story About Role of Business Leaders in Job Creation
In the video, listen to all the Fox crowd’s shrieking when Stockman basically says Romney’s business experience is irrelevant. They know this is is a killer argument, which is why they’re working so hard to round up the rebuttals. This is one of those killer points that decide elections, even though it just scratches the surface of what matters.

Scarecrow commented on the blog post FDL Book Salon Welcomes Paul Krugman, End This Depression Now!
Welcome Professor Krugman, and thank you to Knut for the fine intro. I’ve seen a number of interviews in which Paul emphasize how important it is to get his basic messages out there, given the unemployment crisis . . . and yet the last week has been focused on a mindless “fiscal summit” in which the main theme was the supposedly imminent debt crisis, or entitlements, of the “cliff.”
And we’ve seen story after story that the media/punidts are starting to blame “austerity” for the recessions and unemployment in Europe . . . and yet there’s not sign that the people that matter have changed their basic way of thinking about the problem or its remedies.
What do you think is the most difficult obstacle in breaking through on this?

Scarecrow commented on the blog post Brown Defends Foreclosure Fraud Settlement Raid With Talk of “Balance”
At this point, there aren’t any non-vital programs left, depending on who you are. The Administration must have anticipated this and decided it would be okay even if not explicitn. So what we see is a backdoor effort to fund state budgets through federal subsidies that are funneled through the bank settlement, and the banks take a cut and get off the hook in exchange.
Of course, if that was the plan, they should have asked for 3-4 times as much.

Scarecrow commented on the blog post The FBI’s Framing of Long-Time Chicano Activist Carlos Montes
Thanks — but this still seems a legal issue you resolve before a trial can even go forward. The suggestion here is that the fix is in with the court, not just the FBI and prosecution, which makes it even worse.

Scarecrow commented on the blog post The FBI’s Framing of Long-Time Chicano Activist Carlos Montes
There’s a piece missing. If the prior conviction was not a felony, then the case collapses. The court can determine that in minutes, even take judicial notice of a prior court entry. I don’t understand how the trial is going forward when this essential element of the crime is supposedly missing.

Scarecrow commented on the blog post How to Build An Incredibly Cheap Death Star
I think we already have a Death Star. Its called the US military/NATO. It’s used to protect the key energy source, oil, and it’s paid for not because technology is “cheap” from innovation, but because a huge amount of spending can be done by government, with minimal costs, if it decides it wants to create money for that purpose.
Somehow, all the “deficit spending” for that purpose does not harm the economy, although it is well known that if you spent that on health care or feeding/sheltering people, the Empire would ask the regional governors to crush the rebellion.

It would be helpful if you could explain the larger exposure as they try to unwind the position. We need a good laypersons take to put this in perspective, since the $2 billion number is now commonly used, as you noted in previous comments.
