Scott McLarty commented on the diary post Washington, DC City Council Race Clarifies by E. F. Beall.
Perry Redd is my candidate too. I hope that enough DC voters learn about him by April 23, the date of the special election. Here is his web site: http://www.redd4council.com Perry is the only candidate who opposes the closing of 15 DC public schools and the land-grab and education privatization schemes behind the closings: see http://www.gp.org/press/pr-state.php?ID=606 See [...]

Scott McLarty wrote a new diary post: The Tar Sands Pipeline and Independent Eco-Politics
Bill McKibben of 350.org says we don’t have time to challenge two-party rule and build a political alternative like the Green Party that takes the climate threat seriously. In reality, we don’t have time not to. Those of us who participated in the #ForwardOnClimate Rally against the tar-sands pipelines in Washington, DC, on Feb. 17 witnessed the [...] -
Scott McLarty commented on the diary post Open the Debates: Demand inclusion of Jill Stein and Gary Johnson! by Scott McLarty.
Will efforts like “Occupy the CPD” result in an invitation for Jill Stein & Gary Johnson to participate in the debates? Probably not, but maybe we can make their exclusion an even bigger media story than the actual Obama-Romney confrontation. And maybe by doing so, we can win support for Jill and for the issues [...]

Scott McLarty commented on the diary post Open the Debates: Demand inclusion of Jill Stein and Gary Johnson! by Scott McLarty.
I’d like to see Rocky Anderson get a chance to debate too, as well as the Socialist Party candidate Stewart Alexander. Jill Stein and Gary Johnson have achieved ballot access in states controlling at least 270 electoral votes, the minimum threshold needed to win the presidency through a majority in the Electoral College vote. In [...]

Scott McLarty commented on the blog post Issues the Two Major Party Presidential Candidates Refuse to Discuss
Thanks for this article! Jill Stein and running mate Cheri Honkala haven’t only talked about foreclosures, they also protested, performed civil disobedience, and spent the night in jail in defense of Philadelphians facing the loss of their homes a month ago. For more on Dr. Stein’s ‘Green New Deal’, see this: http://www.jillstein.org/green_new_deal
Here is Dr. Stein’s statement this week on the NDAA: http://www.jillstein.org/liberty_obama_ndaa

Scott McLarty commented on the diary post Jill Stein Calls for a Vote for the Future by metamars.
“No one expects the Green and Socialist parties to sweep into the highest offices in the next election. But if we vote with courage and conscience only when we are assured that a majority will vote along with us, then what can we possibly mean by either courage or conscience? If a good cause is [...]

Scott McLarty wrote a new diary post: Open the Debates: Demand inclusion of Jill Stein and Gary Johnson!
It’s time for Americans of all political persuasions to unite and demand real presidential debates, with the participation of Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson. Three debates are planned, the first on October 3. The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), which controls the debates, is determined that only Barack Obama [...]

Scott McLarty wrote a new diary post: Romney, Obama, and the Bipartisan ‘Free Market’ Scam
“Ryan’s a corporatist. Ryan is anything but a conservative. is my word for what they’re calling crony capitalists — they expand government in the service of corporate interests. It’s the merger of big business with big government where the big government is in the service of big capitalism.” — Ralph Nader

Scott McLarty commented on the diary post The Occupy Movement Must Also Become a Voters’ Rebellion by Scott McLarty.
(Some more comments first posted on another site where my article was published. — SM) I guess it was inevitable that a few readers would misinterpret the above article as “voting versus protest.” I can only suggest that they read it again. Nonvoting can make a statement, but it really advances no specific political agenda [...]

Scott McLarty commented on the diary post The Occupy Movement Must Also Become a Voters’ Rebellion by Scott McLarty.
Some further comments by the author of the article… The most active participants in the Occupy Movement — those organizing and taking part in the street protests and especially the encampments — are already doing what they should be doing. I don’t recommend that they abandon or dilute their current actions to get involved with [...]

Scott McLarty wrote a new diary post: The Occupy Movement Must Also Become a Voters’ Rebellion
To vote or not to vote — that is the question for Occupy Wall Street protesters and for Americans sympathetic to the Occupy movement taking place in cities throughout the US. For many of those who intend to vote, it means casting a ballot for Democratic candidates, including President Obama. For those who don’t plan [...]

Scott McLarty wrote a new diary post: After the Wall Street Protests: To change America’s political direction, we need a voters’ revolt and a permanent noncorporate alternative to the Titanic Parties
The protests against Wall Street’s criminal theft of America’s future, to be followed on October 6 by the ‘October 2011′ occupation of Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC, are cause for optimism. Maybe ‘Arab Spring’ is finally coming to the US. (‘American Autumn’?) The protests, now spreading to other cities, are continuing despite the troops of [...]
