Glackin commented on the blog post Late Night: The Latest Casualty
In the early 1970′s I drove a cab in NYC while going to college. A cabbie was expected to know when each edition of the “Big Three” papers we had left came out. The “bulldog” hit the street around 10:30PM, the first edition of the next day’s paper. The “morning line”, around 7AM, gave the odds on horse races and sports. The “market close” gave the final Dow figures and, more important, the daily number.
Many people bought two or three papers a day.
Then the “market experts” decided papers SHOULD generate 20% to 25% profit. Advertising filled the pages, the price went up, and people stopped buying. -

Bring on the IRS!
While you are at it, drop a dime to Homeland Security. Those sure sounded like terroristic threats against citizens of the United States. -
Glackin commented on the blog post Late Night: Resistance Is Futile
Back in the 1960′s, when people talked of the “coming police state”, news workers in NYC told those of us doing music and providing tech for the anti-war movement that it was here, back then. COINTELPRO came out a few years later, but they were saying the news media was compromised, telecom was compromised, even the US mail.
Chicago beat the people in Haymarket Sq., In Lincoln Park in ’68, and this weekend. It is the nature of the beast.
Do what you must. I think Dylan Thomas got it right.

Glackin commented on the blog post Noooo Americans Elect Whyyyyy
The arrogance of holding an “Americans Elect” via a medium unknown to at least 20% of the voters should be sufficient reason for its demise.
Want a “THIRD PARTY”?
Get out and build one.
The way the two we now have BEGAN, not what they are now. Get in the streets, the caucuses. Build a program and a platform. You don’t need icons, you need ideas. -

Only someone from out of New England would quote the BH for ANYTHING!
It makes the NYPost look like the NYTimes. -

Racist little thing, aren’t you? BTW, Ms. Warren has as much Cherokee heritage (1/32) as the current Chief of the Cherokee Nation.

Glackin commented on the blog post Elizabeth Warren: Dimon Should Resign From NY Fed Board
I’m a Mass resident. I KNOW what Scottie has done to the state, and the nation. Warren isn’t my ideal, but she is my candidate. She won’t vote for the Blunt (Brown) Amendment, the Big Oil tax relief, or the student loan interest raise, like Scottie did.
That said, the shocking idea is that Dimon is STILL THERE!
Why does a candidate have to call for his resignation? -

Suzanne, thank you for the music, as always.
Good luck as you start your rehab. When the work gets tough, “Take Five”

Glackin commented on the diary post Cruel & unusual punishment: What if Pelican Bay & Leavenworth went organic? by Jane Stillwater.
I believe that experiment was ended by men named Lincoln and Grant. People in the “Correction Industry” have gotten rich on inmate labor for centuries. Australia was built by it. Convict labor is forced labor is slave labor. Huddie Ledbetter (Leadbelly) kept landing in Parchman Farm. The story was the prison needed him, he was [...]

Never been Down South, huh? Angola Prison, La. has extensive farmlands. Mississippi’s MAX/PRISON is called “Parchman Farm”. Huddie Ledbetter wrote about it. They are also two of the most notorious prisons in the nation. It’s not the work they do, it’s the attitude of their jailers. If you treat men like beasts, you will get [...]

Wherever you were dropped from, take some time and look around before revealing your level of incompetence. FDL has criticized Pres. Obama loud and long. He only looks good by comparison.
Back under your bridge. -
Glackin commented on the blog post Late Night FDL: Swinging From the Trees
Too true. After a few classic busts on SCOTUS nominations (Bork, and remember Carswell?), the GOP has trended to unknown YOUNG cons for SCOTUS. After Bork, the Dems. went with the old rules, not seeing the game had changed.
Obama has, and continues to piss me off. But Ruth Ginsberg is 79. Anton (scafim) Scalia is 76, I think. I don’t want Willard naming their replacements.
And yes, this election is as simple as that. I’m going to hold my nose for the top of the ticket, and work where I can to increase the Senate and recover the House.
One more plutocrats’ place man on SCOTUS, and it’s Hasta La Vista, Constitution! -

Suzanne, Thank you for the Temps. Glad to hear your knitting progresses. Hope we can extend it to the nation. Had a good May Day in NE, with some Beltane thrown in. Just short on the bonfires, almost no snow, fire alerts everywhere.
Some flames don’t go out.

Glackin commented on the diary post National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Cuts Ties to ALEC by Rebekah Wilce.
How a “Legislative Exchange Council” has a say in teacher standards escapes me.
It does seem that if you turn the lights on, rats and roaches run for cover.
And when you raid the whorehouse, lots of “respectable” people run out the back door. -
