I was able to wrest my mortgage from the zombie hands of Bank of America and get it set up in my credit union about a year ago. I had to pay a sizable amount (by my standards) to get a low interest rate and a shorter term even as I had really stellar credit to offer.
I hope the Obama admin does manage to arrange for lower rates for struggling homeowners. I’ll consider my cash contribution to Fannie Mae a refund to the government for the interest deduction I got on the old loan. Fair enough for me.
