Shittiest election season ever. Raw dog, either way. I only hope more Americans opt out of the duopoly. But I think the Unitary Executive and the National Security State remain intact, controlling pretty much everything, with guns and money and suchlike, and I can’t see civil disobedience (even armed insurrection) making a bit of difference. Welcome…as they say…to The Machine.

Anything but Klingon opera. (Okay, no Dixieland either. As Riker said, ya can’t dance to it.)

The Milky Way is about 100,000 light-years across. That’s really, really big. If Terran ‘gay marriage’ could destroy even something so vast, still, who cares? There are billions more galaxies.

Newspapers lost their revenue. The classifieds. How could they compete against craigslist?

Thanks, DrDick. I’m getting near snoozzzzzztime, but I did wanna add, as I posted on FDL before, I cannot wait to not vote for Nancy Pelosi.

I don’t see anything liberal at the national level, but I do see it at a local level. Of course, this is SFlandia, and I may have my blinkers on.

Even the Koch brothers were once little kids running around the schoolyard (at a perfectly manicured private boys school, I’m sure). What happened?

    I think we know.

I don’t think DrDick corrupts, but he might disillusion, and that is probably a good thing.

Yeah, my friends in the world of journalism go on about this, how there’s no intrepid reporter down at City Hall anymore to bother, and have lunch with, political types and their hangers-on. Can bloggers and hand-held devices with vid-cams replace this? I do not know.

Here in SFlandia, I pick up the Examiner (the former Hearst flagship rag). It’s full of ads, and sports schedules. Some politics; dunno. I pick it up for the Xword puzzle.

The desire for content is there, I think, but the days of ink-stained wretches getting out the bulldog are gone. (And, ah, I miss the old M&M at 5th & Howard, a newspaper bar out of central cating.) Switch to the Internet, blogsites, and suchlike. But I do not know how the new formatting of information (misinformation?) will play out.

Kevin’s larger point about the media representation of what went on in Chicago was spot-on.

Jesus God, Bob Schieffer just said at a recent commencement address that government was ‘broken.’ Given his long, ‘illustrious’ career in journalism at CBS, he’s basically covered himself in crap. He could have spoken to these issues…yes, he could have done that…instead of interviewing Lindsey Graham and John McCain and other Beltway dickwads for the elebenty-billionth time.

Look at the intrusive humiliation you undergo just to fly somewhere (after having paid good money for an airline ticket). It buys you no guarantee of safety, and yet, and yet, we readily submit. Dutifully. Quietly. Sheepishly, we move forward. But the State has made its jackboot power known. Strip searches. Fondling for national security, even if it’s your kid. But no one cares.

Sadly, I think the (romantic?) notion of revolution is too antiquated. The people don’t have a chance against the State anymore. Not a chance in hell.

(As if the people understood, or even cared.)

Police departments have been recruited by the feds, and furnished with shiny crowd-control hardware to suppress freedom of speech and assembly. To violate the Constitution, and now, now, they defy the courts. So what have we? Cops trained in the Afghanistan and Iraq experience, i.e., pitbulls launched against the American public in service of their 1% paymasters, with a chorus of *USA! USA! USA!* and football on the big-screen and F-14′s flying overhead! It’s mindless.

  • Dearie,

Well, ya know, I wonder about these peachers, pastors and so-called men of God. Dunno why they don’t spend more time feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, comforting the afflicted. Good works and suchlike. I thought that’s what they were called to do.

Instead, these religious psychopaths continue hateful rants unchallenged, under guise of religious freedom.

    Bah!

  • Wonder what would happen if these goobers were taught the ‘Scientific Method’? And the difference between physics and metaphysics, sense and nonsense?

Would there be an Alabama anymore???

No, I don’t see Hillary runnining for president in 2016. She’s yesterday’s fish wrap.

But then, what would it matter? She would accomplish…what…?
